This is just the kind of advice I need in order to learn- thanks. Have had a play but the more I try the worse I like the shot!! More sharpening/less brightness/more contrast loses the fluffiness of the feather and makes it more tinsel-like. Have put my original in pending in case you can help me with how to keep it fluffy. I have Paint Shop Pro - and a reference guidel!!
Nice arty shot Claire. I looked at what Rod changed on it and think maybe he went quite far to show a point. To my eye something between this and what he did would be just perfect- you've got the shot composed well.

Very good job on that white feather Claire! I tried one today and it wasn't nearly as good as this! :-) CJ

That looks like a great tickle stick Claire:-) Well done nice picy. Wot post processing program do you use? This could look a bit better by upping the contrast. A good PP trick that works for lots of picys is to up the contrast by about plus 8 & lower the brightness (darken) by about minus 8. Just try different amounts to your own tastes. I downloaded this & turned it into a masterpiece & put it in Pending to show how a master would PP this:-) I gave it Plus 15 contrast & minus 8 brightness, I also used the dodge tool to lighten the fevvor a bit more. Finished wiv an Unsharp Mask of 100....point 3 .....0
