These terns lose the oil on their feathers when they dive in the ocean so they have to "sunbath" to help bring the oil to the top of their skin. They then distribute the oil around their feathers to help waterproof them so they won't drown when they dive again. The sun was very bright on the sand so levels and the s/h tool helped bring out some detail in their heads and bodies. :-) CJ
