The shot is great. On second glance, I really started to notice how nice the bird's under feathers are. It is amazing that the green feathers can hide this bright yellow. John

Beautiful. But you could have done better with a landscape comp. :)

Very nice colors, light and comp, and that bokeh is really something.

Whoa Rod. I can't pass this thing without commenting again. The colors are astonishing and this image shows how much it takes to compete with a centered eye. I think the red leaves actually win the battle for attention. -tv

Thanks Jano, Tommy & Tom:-) Jano your comment made my day, made me feel really good, ta:-) The settings Tommy are the same as for me other picys above. My camera is set for this challenge on Parameter one, it has more contrast & sharpening than my normal Parameter two. I'm also shooting small Jpeg 2mp so I only have a small downsize to do in PS to help keep sharpness. I take a picy in AV mode on evaluative metering, I then note the speed & Fstop & then use manual & stopping down to darken the picy by checking how dark it looks on the camera LCD screen. I was out at our tree trying to get a closer crop of my red pod picy as Sharon suggested & had just done the metering in AV & took one flower picy in manual stopped down. I saw this parrot a few meters away & walked back to frame it. When these birds are feeding you can get quite close, unlike normal birds these don't react when you walk under or around the tree even if they're on a low branch as this one was.
Most of the birds have blue heads & red chest on a yellow background & there's normally only two or three of these mainly green ones, I don't know if they're the same species (Lorrikeet) or ring ins. Yes Tom it's eating nectar or seed from deep in the flower, their heads completely disappear into the flower.

There's that bird again. At least we can see what it actually looks like this time. Very lovely, is he eating seeds from the pods?
ctfchallenge06-Jan-2008 01:17
I gotta ask if the parrot is wild or a pet. It seems well trained. It's amazing to me that such an exotic bird could be so readily available to pose. The details of the feathers are amazing without pp. Now what setting did you use again....? Very nicely done. -tv
