You are most likely right CJ. I never got back to this image before the end came. John

John, I like this idea and think it might make a stronger statement with a tighter crop of just the lower part of the glass and the Alka-Seltzer pack without the candle - what do you think? CJ

Thanks all. I never thought of the candle as more than a reinforcing element that this was a Thanksgiving type dinner and that Alka-Seltzer is a standard after dinner drink --- funny. In fact, a burning candle only has oxidation as the change process so heat and light are given up but the state still remains a solid ... wax wick to oxidated wick.

I kept the Alka-Seltzer wrapper in to assist viewer in identifying the tablet/bubbles which are almost too small to resolve at this resolution. Oh well, I thought it more on topic than my other two pictures.

I thought the title referred to the candle.. I'm a little slow.. oh, now I see: double meaning. Nicely composed anyway, which is more important. -tv

Enforcing the image by leaving the wrapper in the shot was well thought out. Good one John. -COAmature

Sue Anne, look in the glass. A zillion gas bubbles get released the instant the tablet falls into the glass. They are so small and moving upward so fast that I couldn't capture individuals but rather streams of them. John

LOL too funny - I was looking for the gas but I see the corner hint of relieving too much eating :)

After drinking Alka-Seltzer I hope the gas comes out from the right end mate:-)

a change of state is a great idea for the challenge. sound like your son has a great eye! - b.c.

These bubbles blast out so fast that it would have required a huge amount of light to get the shutter speed high enough to stop these bubbles. I tried several shots but settled on the first. My son pointed out to me the significance of the window light lined up with the two glasses and recommended that I cut out the wine glass full of red wine and plate as they were overbearing the shot. What an artist he is. John

After our kids get finished having Thanksgiving with their significant others, they come home to celebrate the Sunday after. For those not in the US, Alka-Seltzer launched a significant campaign in the 90's ... Plop! Plop! Fizz! Fizz! Oh what a relief it is! or I can't believe I ate the whole thing! ... that personifies indigestion as an Alka-Seltzer event. It is the universal name to describe any fizz type medicine that would rescue those who might have eaten a little more than they wanted. John
