Good exposure on a very relaxing image Brent - wish I was there! :-) CJ

Looks like you got the perfect time of day on this one. I love the deep blue remaining in the sky and the more subtle blue still evident in the water.

Thanks B.C., Jano and Doug. I haven't used the polarizing filter here yet Rod. It does a nice effect I like, but I used it a lot last year on another island here and regretted a little using it so much as many shots looked the same. Still, I did some shooting today (haven't gone over them yet) where I think using the CP would have been nice- they are a good thing to have in your bag I think.

Great working keeping the sun Brent. Like many, I would have likely lost the sun or underexposed. -COAmature

Brent did you use a polarize filter? I might think about on for the L lens.

Great job Brent - I like the color and WB here. Very serene. jano

a very dramatic capture of some tricky changing light. hmmm.. a vacation about now sounds nice :) hope you're having a great one - b.c.

Sounds like you have a much more scientific shooting manner than me Rod- that yields great results. I have to bank on being able to get thinks right later on (with luck) processing the RAW files.
The dogs are being watched by a nice young couple staying at the house while we are away. I'm sure they are being spoiled and it is only for 5 nights too. We do miss them though.

My camera is set on parameter 2 Tommy for less sharpening, contrast & saturation in camera. The picys don't look as good from the camera but Photoshop does these jobs better. In PS I normally use the curves tool & make a small S shape curve with the line, this seems to add contrast & bump the colours up a bit (looks similar to using the Brightness & Contrast tool set on minus 8 brightness & plus 8 contrast). Then Unsharp Mask, 150....point 3......0 on the high res picy & after downsizing another Unsharp Mask of about 100 or 150.....point 3....0. & a bit of dodge & burn if needed.
Brent who's looking after your dogs?

I don't know about any custom setting Rod would use Tommy; it might only work if you drink at least 3 beers ;-) I know...Rod is only joking about the beer while he is really drinking tea. I don't have any magic setting on my rig, my "M" button is usually left on a setting good for macro images at work. Most of the time a just vary things in AV mode depending on the setting and muck with the exposure compensation a bit- but fine tune it in RAW. As far as barrel distortion goes with this lens; I find very little using my cropped body, but expect it would be different on a full frame.
I'm curious to see how this looks on something other than my lappy screen here on vacation, it is supposed to be a good screen as far as portables go (LED backlighting), but I've noticed it doesn't quite display all the color range my desktop monitor does.

Brent, how's the barrel distortion? Looks good so far otherwise. Good idea and beautiful execution. Do you have a custom "Brent" setting in your camera. Once in a while I try to imitate it but can't seem to find it... or Rod's either. -tv

Thanks Rod :-) I really like my 17-40 lens. On my cropped sensor I find the range quite acceptable for a walk around lens and use it for probably 80% of my shots. You can't get great bokeh with just an f4, but at least it holds f4 throughout the zoom range. I think it's a pretty sharp lens and being on the lighter side and one of the least expensive L lenses makes it appealing to me as well. I give it a thumbs up.

Wot an excellent picy, the exposure is spot on for me. Is this lens any good Brent I'm thinking of getting one?
