Kelly, here is a downside view (of the upper part of the gardens). This was shot with a small film Pentax on a cloudy, gray day. The place deserves more visits and more pictures taken..
Thanks, Cat! Now that you mentioned it, I recall that looking at the picture you look south, so indeed morning or evening light would make shadows to the right or left..

Nice and well done.
I would say this is the right light for this photo. Any other light (except when sun's not in the sky) would have skewed the perfect symmetry of the design. Just to mention that I also noticed the cropped top.
