Julie Bird

Chic

I have swapped the wider view image to the pending gallery. I wonder whether the neck now provides a stronger leading line to the face? Julie

Rod, you make me laugh. Julie

I don't know wot Melbob would say but old Brisrod:-) here can't see any lines to lead me into the picy as such. The angle you took this at does make us look at the neck lips & nose as the eyes are just out of the DOF so it does look more of a leading line picy than the full on shot. I think you might be battling to get a good picy out of this mannequin Julie especially after seeing your other shots which look like wot I would call proper picys:-) Getting a leading line is fine but getting a good shot as well would be better as I can't see any purpose in this type of picy unless it's to experiment with how different lighting will look. So on yer bike Julie & get out & hit us with one of your good picys:-)

Thanks John. Now Melbob, does the neck provide a leading line for you? Julie

I really like the cropped one, Julie. The lighting, your angle, and her eyes walk you through the shot. I think the pretty dress and the blue sash crossing through this one is distracting. John

Thanks for your comment John. I have posted a re-cropped image to the pending gallery. This uses the neck as the leading line. What do you and others think? Julie

Addendum, have the crop include the neck hem of her dress (i.e. start just above her left breast). Since this is art we can say breast, right? John

Julie, I see the leading line of reflection up her neck, crossing her lips and to her nose which has my eyes rest at her strange colored eyes. But below the neck line all I see is dress (not sure this comes out right :-). I think if you cropped at her pearls (good line to start with) you would have us and her looking up ... at what I am not sure ... but it might make the picture stronger on topic. John

I like the subject, lighting & drama. This is right up my alley, see link;

Maybe a bit of a stretch Julie but it's better than the big nothing I've got so far. -COAmature

I'm really confused how you can see leading lines here without willing them to be. Maybe my thinking is too clichéd.

Arm works for me, and the body curves too lend a general direction to look towards the head and eyes. I attention goes to the highlight on the upper lip. If that was not your intention, that highlight may be subdued.

I am willing to give full credit for curving lines (and I don't mean the arm) as being lines that lead to the main subject. That should be, I believe, the very colorful eyes. But I think the neck and shoulders are a bit dark, relative to the dress, and could use a bit more illumination.

The arm would work well if it were in focus with one edge pointing into the corner. Otherwise nicely exposed and composed shot. This 'realistic' mannequin make an inintended statement about the artificiality of the physically 'ideal' woman, especially as you have captured it. Striking. -tv

Donno, maybe if the arm was brighter the contrast with background would make it work? ?oved

The arm doesn't work for me Julie but wait & see wot the others say.
