California Fires

The fires burning in California are real. 300,000 people in San Diego were evacuated last weekend. We drove straight through one of the fires. The flames were close enough to feel intense heat inside the car with the windows up. Just as we approached, a police car that was diverting traffic decided it best to move and just let people stand on the gas to get out. He then turned around to block traffic until the fire was contained.

Nightmare. I'm glad you're safe. I like these two shots. But, they merge together too much without a narrow line in the middle, IMHO. The colors work well together... and they tell a story. Nice, Doug ~lydia

Very well done Doug considering the harrowing circumstances! With all the fires in CA every year, we always wonder if we'll have a house when we get back from MN every fall - we keep good fire insurance! When we lived in So. Cal. the Santa Ana winds blew the fire to within a few miles of our house - it was scary! CJ

Very topical shot Doug it's amazing how these fires just jump over the roads. It's a wonder there weren't lots of accidents in that thick smoke as people speed up to get through it. Of course it was hell Tommy but our Doug had to get the picys for posting here, he's our hero:-)
Well done Doug:-)

Doug - good photo work right into the action of it. I can see the smoke and imagine the heat. Well done.

I'm so glad you made it through safely! A real photographer, aren't you...can't resist getting a shot even in the midst of what must have been a terrifying experience.

Wow shots of the fires. Must have been hot. I'm in NY but my primary system is in San Diego near Del Mar. I had some anxious days. The smoke the smoke the smoke.. must have been hell to be there. -tv
