The wide angle shot works really well, you have quite a collection, nice to see someone is still listening to Gary Numan. It also reminds me to find my After the Gold Rush album, I havn't listened to any Neil Young for ages!

I'm still breathing despite the collar Aam :-) I don't know much about Bryan Ferry these days, but was he not a good front man for Roxy Music back in the day? By the way; that album in the corner with the mostly naked women on the cover is an early pressing of Roxy Music's "Country Life" which later was sold with just the trees on the cover and no women- could be worth some money I spose -even if your buddy Bryan sings on it ;-)

I still think Brent will faint anytime from suffocation (too tight upper button). If not, it will be from Bryan Ferry voice :)
ctfchallenge20-Oct-2007 01:36
Looks better to me too although I would have liked the top cropped too. It would make the proportions odd unless the bottom was cropped a little too I guess. Either way would work. Good one Brent! CJ
aam1234 19-Oct-2007 20:35
Correction: Kiki suggested the square crop. Sorry for the mistake, Kiki.
sue anne19-Oct-2007 19:58
I like this crop too :)
aam1234 19-Oct-2007 18:52
CJ is right! It does look more claustrophobic now, which is a good thing for this challenge imo.
ctfchallenge19-Oct-2007 18:27
Okay, I've uploaded a more square crop done without going back to the original file (might see if I get a better result with that over the weekend). It does fit the shot concept as well as the challenge topic better I think. Thanks all :-)

Lot of hard work, taking them out of dust jackets and all. Nice shot - Debi
aam1234 19-Oct-2007 17:45
I think both suggestions together would work really well. CJ's crop on a square format. Sounds cool. And if you are really good at PP Brent then you might want to lose Bryan Ferry's album too ... kidding :)
ctfchallenge19-Oct-2007 17:22
I don't know about a square crop but cropping down into a little of your hair and up to both sides of the couch would make this seem more claustrophobic to me - goes with the choked feeling of the shirt! ;-) CJ
ctfchallenge19-Oct-2007 17:09
I wonder that myself Kiki and will try a square crop when I have some time with the original image. Thanks!
~Brent
aam1234 19-Oct-2007 17:09
What I wonder is, why the top button of your shirt is buttoned. You seem suffocating :)
ctfchallenge19-Oct-2007 15:31
I keep wondering.. might as well ask lol: Why didn't you crop it square?

ctfchallenge19-Oct-2007 14:54
Thanks guys- maybe I should have had several more beer bottles strewn about ;-)
~Brent
aam1234 19-Oct-2007 11:27
Notice how the bottle matches his shirt. Nice touch, Brent ;)
Rod 19-Oct-2007 10:20
This is nicely done Brent except for that huge focal point of the bottle of beer:-)
aam1234 19-Oct-2007 09:21
Other than Bryan Ferry, who gets on my nerves big time, this is an excellent photo, Brent!
ctfchallenge19-Oct-2007 03:03
It must have been painful to scatter them out like this after so well caring for these rather easily damaged cardboard envelopes. Thanks for the sacrifice for the topic. Everyone should take note of the technique here: high point of view aligning the picture plain along the prepondering axis of the subjects; flat lighting with no strong shadows; excellent DOF where everything is sharply in focus. Well and carefully executed. A lot harder than you make it look. -tv

great concept and a really fun and effective shot. the only thing missing are plastic milk crates to store them in... I wonder, do kids these days even know what LPs are? :) - b.c.
ctfchallenge18-Oct-2007 17:41
Tidy clutter, good colors, and fun to see those albums again.. used to have Pinups and Soldier :)

Thanks All,
It was fun to pull all my vinyl LPs out of the basement and think about the “old days” back when I bought all these albums (though the setup looks a bit contrived). Growing up in LA when I did meant lots of weekends spent in Hollywood checking out the punk scene CJ- strictly sociological observations of course ;-) The albums covers are still in great shape having been kept inside plastic sleeves Tom, and I may try your square crop idea when I have some time J.V.- thanks :-)

Very colorful, those vinyls look brand new.
J.V. 18-Oct-2007 14:43
Great shot. The colors, even lighting, wide angle, and viewpoint all seem to work. Heres a thought, if you shaved a little off each side, you'd have a perfectly square crop that would work great with the album theme.
ctfchallenge18-Oct-2007 11:59
Very funny Brent and very cluttered! Who knew you were a closet punk rock fan! Good one and even though there is a vocal point (you!) there is so much color and pattern, the eye wants to wander all over and examine all the covers. CJ
sue anne18-Oct-2007 11:08
Good one and is that a self portrait? Vinyl, what is that? ;)
