Debi I don't use Macro or Super Macro as I don't seem to get good results as you have to get so close it cuts down light and frightens all the little creatures away :(
I use a Sigma close-up (macro) filter, which is equivalent to the Canon 500D. This enables you to move your camera futher away, and zoom in more, but you have to be careful that you select a smaller aperture when zoomed in to ensure the DOF is not too shallow! A tripod can also help to reduce blur caused by shake!

How did you get that zoom with the S3 in the macro mode? I never get more than 3x in macro and none in super macro - Debi
