Thanks TV, Rod and Lee. I apprecite all the discussions on this and I agree with pros and cons of contrasts. It boils down to matter of personal taste.
I have given a thought to Aam's suggestion and I think there is possibly some room to play with the contrast. Although I could not get it done in time, I think I'll push the contrast for printing. Thanks Aam.

well done Cat. Your effort really has paid off.

Good points Tommy & I had the same problems getting good a tonal range from my B&W in the darkroom. I could get good blacks & good whites with not many tones in between or vice versa, I can get a lot better results now with digital. (As can millions of others)
Normally I would go along with Aamms suggestions about more contrast in this shot but what I keep in mind is Cat produces picys that have a delicacy about them & this seemed in keeping with that.

Back in the darkroom ages, I would wonder why my shots never had punch. I found I had to keep on hand six different contrast grades of Kodak paper and learn some burning, dodging, and solarizing techniques. Only one in ten tries seemed to work however and the most difficult variable was my own faulty judgement about how much was enough. Now I'm finally into digital photo processing and still having and hearing from others about the same delemma. So, it is reassuring to go to a gallery and see some masters at work. I agree that not every subject needs to have the extreme range from black to white, but when that subject can tolerate it, the image itself always seems to benefit from pushing the tonal range. -tv

Thanks Rod,
I see Aam's POV and still contemplating on his suggestion. But I am glad you see why I choose this to be on the lighter side. I have posted the original as captured in pending. My skills are not that great, but I tried to process this to make it look like not much PP was done.

This shot works great, goodun Cats. I can see what Aamms on about so I just used the burn tool to darken the shadows somewhat & liked the look but somehow this lighter look adds a delicacy to such a solid structure that the darkened one lacked. Plus it's harder to see the silly sig in this lighter one:-)

This one is saturated with pattern. Nice find. -COAmature

I'll play with it a bit and let you know, Cat. Hope you don't mind. Won't post the result nor keep it on my PC for long.

Wonderful geometric lines here Cat - very nice! :-) CJ

Thanks Aam. I know your point of view and understand it perfectly. There was not a dot of black on the building face anywhere, so my take is the photo should not have a complete black at all either. The shades are dark gray but not black. If I put more contract, then the dark gray will become black, which is not to my liking in this case.

Geometry at its best. I might play with levels/contrast a bit, though. Still excellent work.
