I like this, the birds making a quick exit! obviously trying to give you the maximum negative space!, you have trained them well Rod!

Thanks Kiki:-) The composition is a bit funny but it looks great after a few beers........well at least six:-)

Thanks Y:-) Well you know what you can see & its too much sky:-) It happens when you take a picy for a certain effect you may not see it as others do so this shot may not be working. I'm probably just willing it to work:-)

Hi Rod, The bird's expression is great!, I think it is a bit too small for the big sky, but heck what do I know smile Yvonne

Thanks Carole Pete & Tommy:-) Good points about balance Tommy & I agree with the sky being about 90% of the shot that should be the focal point but the trick is to make the 10% the dominant feature for a neg space type shot. Whether I've succeeded here I don't know, I seem to be not tempted at all to look at the sky with the backlit wing drawing me to that corner & the placement of the bird down there seems to add a real tension. This helps it to work for me, In fact I might even vote for this:-)

Here ya go Pete:-)

The bird is about to crash into the corner of the frame and the look on its face says he knows it. Ouch! Continuing the debate about "negative space", this one looks like a picy of the sky with a bird in it. I think there's too much sky to be called negative space because as a painter or photographer, negative space is primarily determined by its (balanced) relationship to the subject. Here, the sky is competing for recognition as the subject. -tv

Three nice photos Rod but where is the lighthouse? PeteH

While I like the detail and composition in the other bird shots, this one says "negative space" to me a bit more - the bird diving through the air into.....nothing! Usually I like to see the space in front of the bird to give him some place to fly, but this still works for me. CJ
