Splendid shot. Really like the purple tips there. Very nice example of negative space at work.

Sam, I can personally vouch that Jano's located in the Central time zone. So when it's July5th midnight GMT it's around 7pm her time. This shot was taken after 7pm.

TV - the exposure was 50. The Pro1 does an excellent job. I have some other nice ones also taken this 4th, but this one caught my eye when I was viewing. Thanks again for commenting. jano

I keep looking at this to explain to myself why it looks better than usual for fireworks, and aside from the "little" explosion ( which was probably the loudest), it also has exceptionally fine detail resulting from your well-judged exposure. What was the ISO? -tv

Jul 4, eligible?

Yes that little burst of light helps lift this, as for me all firework shots seem to look the same.

Good 4th of July shot Jano! I was watching fireworks from a boat so couldn't get any nice pictures like this. Maybe next year! CJ

Very nice catch, great colors. Boom!

Love the explosion within the explosion just off center. No one can argue that this picture is full of negative space. Nice work. -COAmature

The negative space should add balance to the image, or.... take away that balance to add tension. I don't think that the negative space or the subject has to be any particular size (large vs. small). jano

Hm, I'm struggling - not because of the beauty of this shot - but from my understanding the firework is too large to really make this a neg. space image...imho, only :o)

I'm always admiring these kind of pics.

Here is the exif data from the link I posted.

I just kept the shutter open for 7 seconds. I just waited for a few fireworks to go off.

In bulb mode, as long as you have your finger on the button, the shutter will remain open. This is a way to get longer exposures or non timed exposures.

Thanks Lee. Not sure what you mean by "Keep shutter open...for as long " Ummmm that's food for thought. Any suggestions?

I think there are like 10000 things on that cam I have no clue about lol jano

put in manual mode
set aperature to F11
set iso to 100
set exposure to bulb
set focus to manual and then focus on infinite

adjust settings as needed.
leave shutter open as long as you want for multiple fireworks.

Here is a good example from last year.

Thanks Lee and Tomi - Yup, the Pro1 is still and always will be a fav. I didn't want to mess with any settings with the new cam, especially in the dark. Would love to get some tips on the 5D settings for fireworks though...or any dslr for that matter (guess it don't matter?). My current lens is the Canon 24-105. jano
