Thanks, Barry & Mary Anne. This is a Cholla cactus plant and I was happily shooting pix of the red blossoms on this one when the mother of these chicks flew out (scared the heck out of me!). I wouldn't have noticed them if she hadn't and it was so fast that I couldn't really tell what variety she was; kind of a brownish blur. The "hole" I shot this pic thru was the only one I could use to see them with. The iso1600 is kind of like Rod's battery. Pilot forgetfulness (or something), I'm afraid; a hangover from the low-light shots of the night before. The missus didn't get anywhere near my cam, so I can't blame her. It didn't matter much, cuz I guess the picy came out OK, considering. Cheers, -mikey

What a great capture! They're so fragile and helpless at this stage. Do you know what kind of birds they are?
