Debbi, the flash was used in ETTL mode.

I believe it's the speed of the flash, and not the shutter speed that captures this so well. Did you use ETTL on the flash or manual?

Thanks tv and Britt.
tv, this is a drop of water splashed in a shallow container. An external flash, placed to right was used as the light source. You can actually see the flash refection in the drop. I tried various shutter/aperture combinaton (had stay within 1/250s due to the flash sync)...this combination turned out to be the best in terms of the amount of light captured and sharpness. Placed a magazine, Car&Driver (with a red Mustang on the cover...I think) under the shallow glass container to get some interesting color/pattern. It was a fun experiment.

Another amazing RK shot. Britt

Nifty shot, but and incredible that 1/160 second could freeze the splash, or is it glass? ...or did a strobe freeze the movement. Anyway nicely done. -tv
