Oh, the brewery is that 'new'? I didn't know that. Wait... what about that PBS series? They did "A Walk Through Brooklyn" and one of the places they went was an old brewery. Is that not the one? It was a cavernous underground place. As for the struggle, they're tearing everything down except the Wonder Wheel, the parachute jump, and the roller coaster. ~ Lonnit
I mispoke about the 'sign' and was actually referring to the "figure" as a part of the 'sign'. So I agree with you. This was the first of your series I viewed before I realized your stylistic intention which certainly fits the old sunbleached place. I don't know its age but the Brooklyn Brewery is only about 20 yrs old. Of course the mug could have a history of other logos. I like the series not just for its nostalgia, but as commentary on the current state of this struggling old place. -tv
I don't think the sign is realy any more contrasty than the figure, the burger, or the beer. It was meant to be contrasty for the style I wanted, which was in line, IMO, with the gritty old feel of the place. This also intensified the sky, which was far too delicate for the scene.
I'm glad I could offer a bit of nostalgia for you. :) Do you have any idea how old this figure is? I would have to figure it might be from the fifties. ~ Lonnit
The white in the signs is tough to manage and seems a bit contrasty, but otherwise this is very a very representative shot of Coney Island. My wife and I used to bicycle there from Park Slope in our youth. I miss it. -tv
