Groovy! I like the shallow depth, it draws my eye automatically to the first tack... it's just a simple, pleasing composition in every way!

Thanks, Brent. I've been so busy (mostly with other photo projects) that I just haven't had time to go out looking for shots for the challenges. Also, no time to make many comments. I feel reassured by your comments about the behavior of the 50mm lens. I might even try using it more before I have to return it to its owner.

Forgot to mention I'm glad you decided to participate in this one too Mary Anne :-)

I agree this is on topic Mary Anne, but think Rod's idea about more DOF would make it work even better. I've had that same lens for about 6 months and like it. But it does seem the autofocus has to hunt a little more to lock onto something than my other lenses do. The behavior of your lens might be typical for that model.

If you're happy with it that's all that matters Mary Anne:-)

Sharon, this was shot under a mix of incandescent and fluorescent lights. I used auto WB and then desaturated the yellow channel a bit in PS. Glad you like it.
Rod, I've had a feeling my autofocus isn't working well, esp. with this lens, so I used a fairly wide aperture and got as close as I could to the tack just to see if it would have acceptable sharpness. I kind of like the look of the OOF background, which I think conveys the idea of distance, but I may try it again with a smaller f-stop. But then again, maybe I won't, as you've accepted it as on-topic. ;>)

If you look at the thumbnail for this shot that's the sharpness (DOF) I would like to see here:-)

Excellent idea Mary Anne, I think if you had used a smaller F stop maybe F8 or so it would have said distance a little bit better as the background thumb tacks are too blurred to attract our eyes off the in focus one. They don't have to be sharp, just less blurred. The shot is still on topic so no worries.

Great idea, Mary Anne, and beautifully carried out! I love all the angles and the not quite all in the frameness of the prints. And the toning is very interesting, is this as shot or did you do something to it? ~Sharon
