It's a rare photo that couldn't benefit from judicious cropping. (I crop almost everything.) The top two-thirds of this shot is effectively composed but it's diluted by too much grass in the foreground. The exposure is perfect to my eye. -tv

Thanks Andy:-) I doubt if I would have took any of the three if it wasn't for the challenge topic. I went out that morning to get framed shots, 99% of my picy taking these days is just for the challenge topic. I'm hoping to get back into photography when I retire in two years time.

While I like the light and colours of the building and sky etc and the image as is falls with in the catagory I actually think the dark tree at the top left is and unwelcome intrusion. I wonder if it would be there if not for the challenge?
Rod 02-May-2007 10:13
Cmon you two, people will think I paid you to say nice things:-) Thanks for the encouragement Fred & Rob:-)

Another one of my favorites so far. I think the lighting of this photograph is wonderful. The composition is great. I especially like the way the subject is wedged between the trees and the grass in the foreground.

A little hint of Ed Hopper here. Well composed and exposed. I wouldn't mind a bit of detal in the frontmost tree though, but that's nitpicking. You have put three really good photos on display in this challenge.

Thanks Jano & Tom again:-) More glow! would an increase in contrast help Jano? I will run some PS tests:-)

I totally get that "sun peeking in & out" feel in the foreground. I like the sharpness & the color of the grass echoed in the door & sign. Thanks.

I'm totally in love with the b&w although it is two different pics. I love the color as well but would like to see the sky darkened a little more. This image is screaming for some glow (for me anyhow). Both wonderful shots Rod. jano

Thanks Carole:-)

This is a really nice shot Rod! It would probably have a more framed feel to it if the bottom were cropped off up to just below the posts but then the picture loses some of its appeal. It's a dilemma! ;-) CJ

I see...That wave in the b+w looks exactly the same as the wave in the entered photo. I bet it's photoshopped:>)
ctfchallenge29-Apr-2007 02:58
Thanks mate:-) I thought there was a subtle frame with the foliage & trunks, anyhow . The bay was a bit rough around the edges better seen in this work of ahrt:-)

curves adjustment, dodge & burn & sharpen sounds like a lot of photoshop nonsense to me. It's not your fault...(well it is) but the splash of wave from a relatively calm sea looks odd to me. This is a nice photo if the topic is Lazing In A Deckchair In The Morning With The Old Dears Toyota Dullards Club but for Natural Framing it's a hmmmmm
Rod 28-Apr-2007 05:15
Thanks Brent:-) The lighting was like you get when the sun peeks through after heavy rain. There was no rain but the sun was in & out all the time. This is as shot with a curves adjustment, dodge & burn & sharpen. Sorry Aammm the whole scene is as shot, the only cheating I did was with the clone tool which got rid of a power line...........shame on me:-)
Brent 28-Apr-2007 04:28
Very nice Rod, it has a surreal quality to it- maybe it is the light. Possibly the "framing " aspect isn't quite as strong here, but I agree with Techo it is still a wonderful shot. You did good today Rod, but you are driving poor Aam crazy starting hime on conspiracy theories ;-)
aam1234 28-Apr-2007 03:38
No, you are cheating. Look at the grass, it was taken during sunset/sunrise. Now look at the clouds, they were taken in mid-day.

Come on man.
Rod 28-Apr-2007 02:10
Am I good or wot Aammm:-)
aam1234 28-Apr-2007 01:56
For some reason I don't buy it. Is this a cleaver PS work. It's too good to be true.
Rod 28-Apr-2007 01:53
Thanks Sue Anne & Techo:-) I really had to compromise with the framing as my parked car would be in the shot if I went a little bit right. I thought about moving it but it was too far to walk:-) There were also cafe signs etc that I didn't want in the shot. I might try & give the foreground a bit of a burn Sue Anne as I don't want to lose the spacy look by cropping.
sue anne28-Apr-2007 01:37
I like this one too, I wonder if you cropped the bottom part abit to the fence, it would be more square frame look? (just an idea)
ctfchallenge28-Apr-2007 00:46
The framing it not as strong as the other two entries but it really keeps my interest a lot longer. Mostly because of the ocean splash. That sugar coating is sweet.
