Very dramatic shot. You have made that tree threatening in a way that I know I would have missed, given the same opportunity. Congrats on overcoming the easy route to a pretty picture. This is much heavier. Excellent technique too. -tv

Thanks Gerald:-)

Excellent shot, Rod. I like how the eye is guided by the shadow of the tree, the wide DOF, the colors and, and, and... -Gerald

Great news Fred:-) How about posting some boring baby picys in the main thread?:-)
ctfchallenge02-May-2007 20:26
The baby is just fine Rod. He came home from the hospital last friday, healthy as can be.
Cheers!
Fred

Thanks Fred & Rob:-) How's the baby Fred?

This is one of my favorites so far. The lighting is exquisite. The shadow of the tree in addition to the tree itself guide the eye directly to the lighthouse. Fantastic shot.
ctfchallenge01-May-2007 21:22
Now, here we're talking framing. Excellent compo with not only the frame but also the shadow from the tree leading the eye towards the loghthouse. Lighting is great, too. Have to make the wave and throw a handful of confetti at you for this very fine effort.

Thanks Jano & Tom:-)

Love it! Nicely framed and the lighting is exceptional. jano

Very nice! The rust color patches on the tree trunk balance the red & smooth texture of the lighthouse. I like that the beautiful tree takes up a good chunk of the pic. The dark clouds/sky in the background with the front lighting make it fun also.

Thanks Barry:-) The light was so good I couldn't go wrong, a reward for getting up at 5am Sat morn:-)

Very nice Rod! All three of your Eligible entries are really good. IMO this one has the best framing of the three. Without giving any weight to the "framing" aspect of the shots, I think Cafe is my favorite. Well done!
Rod 30-Apr-2007 10:26
Thanks Carole:-) I don't think there's many more shots here a:-)
ctfchallenge29-Apr-2007 14:59
Well framed Rod! You're getting a lot of mileage out of the lighthouses! Good one! CJ
Rod 29-Apr-2007 08:28
Thanks Andy:-) I think as a shot the tree is almost as much focal point as the lighthouse, I do look at the tree but my eye soon follows the shadow to the lighthouse.I think because the tree is soft it doesn't cause too much conflict.
Guest 29-Apr-2007 06:41
Strong framin her, Rod, I think a little less of the tree might give more focus to the light house. There is something about the textures on the tree and the white of the lighthouse that vie for my attention .
Rod 29-Apr-2007 03:00
Thanks Paul & Rich:-)
ctfchallenge29-Apr-2007 01:27
This one and the third one are equally excellent. Rich
Paul 28-Apr-2007 10:45
The only thing wrong with this is that you took it. It's excellent. the tree makes you follow the shadow to the lighthouse and then up the lighthouse and back to the tree and all over again. Light is perfect, composition and colours too. You could have chopped down that little Norfolk Island Pine as it adds nothing to the lighthouse but in 50 years time it might be a spectacular specimen so it's probably best to leave it.

Thanks mate:-)

Blimey! Just got back from the movies and you posted three rippers Rod. This is really great, love the color of the tree and fallen bark and then the brightness of the lighthouse that pulls in the attention. Really nice light here- well done Mate :-)
Rod 28-Apr-2007 02:08
Thanks Doug:-) I might have to ease up on lighthouse shots as I don't want people to say they knew it was mine from the thumbnail:-)
ctfchallenge28-Apr-2007 02:00
The familiar lighthouse. I'm quite fond of your lighthouse shots and this one is no exception. I like like shadow of the tree pointing towards it. -COAmature

Thanks Techo & Aammm:-) I had to come up with something half decent in case Paul gets a lucky shot. The only time he beats me is when Emma takes the picy:-)
aam1234 28-Apr-2007 01:19
What happened to you mate. All of a sudden all your entries are GREAT! Are you on drugs or something :)
ctfchallenge28-Apr-2007 00:43
3 great looking posts! I'd have trouble picking between them 3 because each of them offer something different. The framing here is excellent of course.
