Thank you gerald. :)

Enough backlight or not, there is at least some backlight. Lovely picture, the haze and the colors result in a very romantic mood. -gerald

Thank you Jammy :)

Well... I see you sent your sunset to pending Rod. Yes hubby is still a non smoker, 2nd week now. Hope you keep focused. :)

Wow, all these comments must mean something ;)...

I love the pinkish hues of the sunrise, very moody and atmospheric shot ;)

Of course it doesn't have to go to pending Sue Anne:-) Now wipe that tear from your eye & start cooking hubbys dinner:-) Is he still a non smoker?

Beautiful!!! But..... I tend to side with the doubters, for me sunset / sunrise doesn't reall equal backlit. Other that you can't take anything away from it! :) Gerry

Thank you for you insight and discussion. I just knew the sunrise light was the 'back' light source of my scene. :)
and Rod - not sure if this has to go to pending?

"The dominant light source has to be behind the subject"... as Mikey said. So, the question becomes.... is the sky the subject or the landscape? For me, i guess it is 50/50.... but that's if I nit pic this beautiful shot. If Mickey says the subject is the sky...I would simply crop the sky down a ways...then I think the subject is clearly the foreground or landscape. The light from the pic is clearly coming from the background. Love the violet/pink hues!!! jano
Rod 23-Mar-2007 23:17
Carole why do I have to go to pending all on me own:-)hehe
ctfchallenge23-Mar-2007 23:05
I'm not so sure about this being off-topic - if the trees weren't in this picture it wouldn't be that interesting as the colors in the sky are not that strong. I dunno' - I'd leave this one.....I think! CJ
Rod 23-Mar-2007 22:01
Well I'll be buggered, cmon Sue Anne we're off to pending:-) If it wasn't for Barry we would be fighting out for the leadership in voting wiv our magnificent sunset shots, as artiiiiiiists we're misunderstood:-)

Very good point, Barry. As a matter of fact I had trouble deciding if my entry fits with what Mikey intended.

As for this photo, well, academically it does fit the topic but not sure it follows the theme's subject (the same applies to my entry).

Like Rod's sunset this is a beautiful shot. The opinion I was stating is that to me the backlighting should be on the subject of the picutre to be a strong contenter in the category. I couldn't argue that the trees is this photo aren't backlit because they clearly are. But...could I argue that the trees aren't the subject of the pic? :-) To me the subject of the pic is the sunset, the actual light caused by the setting sun. So I ask, can you backlight light? :-)
aam1234 23-Mar-2007 17:13
If this isn't back lit then I don't know what is (somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

Wonderful photo, sueanne.

This is lovely Sue Anne - the colors are nice and the trees stand out nicely against the sky and fog. CJ
Rod 23-Mar-2007 14:24
Lovely colours & shot Sue Anne, its a ripper:-) As to the point Barry raised whether my sunset shot is really a backlit shot I think he would say this one is on topic because of the backlit trees.........Bugger why didn't I get a least one tree in:-)
