Going daffy * 9th by Bill Warren

Daffodils painted with backlighting. Sole light source was 2 LED flashlights that I waved furiously behind them for the 30 second exposure. The idea was that the flower petals would be tranlucent enough that they would illuminate through.

Thanks Jano, I am planning on continuing with more experiments going towards simpler backgrounds because it has great potential for producing some beautiful lighting results. But in this first creative version, subtle was not what I was going for. What I wanted here was to take a standard flower still life and juice it to the max with the wild backlighting to produce a unique--and dare I say more masculine-- image.

Kudos for your creativty. The background is probably a little more distracting than I would like, but for this challenge it works for me. If me, I would probably try this simple flower with the 2 Led's you mention and try a simple black background. jano

The light trails are not needed now Bill as we can plainly see the light is coming through the flowers. This works for me now & the flowers can compete with the background. Well done mate:-)

Well Rod you sent me back to the dark bathroom. I agreed before you said so that the flowers were too evenly lit, and had better ones in the first batch but in those I added some fill light to the fronts.

On this reshoot, which is still all backlit, I reduced the numbers of flowers from 5 to 3. This gave me more single surfaces to work with. And then I worked the flashlights more directly behind the petals. There is clearly an improvement in light bleed through but you are not going to see the specifc light trails bleeding through because even these delicate petals are not translucent enough.

Interesting experiment Bill. The bg is wild but it did light up the flowers and I can tell it is backlit. CJ

Well I can't say truc de ouf like Olivier:-) For this to work for me I would have to see the light trails in the flowers as they seem too evenly lit & lost in the background. Nice try Bill:-)
