A very pretty capture. The colors are wonderful and the curved stem adds the special touch to the composition. Only minor nitpick are the minor specks/blotches in thy sky near the bottom of the frame, quite the simple touchup.

Thanks for the comments Aam, Sharon and Tom - glad you like it! CJ

Simple & great colors!
The controversial "slightly to the left" lighting gives the nice crumpled look of the petals. Good job!

For some reason I missed this shot. Well done, CJ.

Thanks Everyone! This was difficult to capture as it was waving around wildly with the slightest breeze. Fortunately, at 1/1000s the camera stopped the motion! CJ

This works well CJ as with many flower shots as these facing the sky, you would want to see the front of the flower. With a flower such as this, I think you made a wise decision to take it from the back with a different perspective. Wonderful color! I found these types of shots difficult as any slight breeze can cause blur. Good job. jano

Really enjoy the shot and it's very well lit. It could probably have been used in a few of the past challenges as well. Although it fit's the backlighting topic I'm not so sure it is what was intended. Hmmm, maybe I like it even more now. -COAmature

Wonderful flower shot. No doubt about backlighting, otherwise, the shadow of the stamen would not be visible; paradoxical phenomenon that, nevertheless, the backlighting is not obvious. This makes this image particularly interesting. -gerald

I think the problem here is the way our sensors handle some reds, I can see the stamen shadows now which I saw before but didn't think they came through the flower & were just shadowing on the underside. Still a lovely looking shot but:-)

If there's light coming THROUGH the back and you can see that in the shadows, then the flower is backlit... albeit from an angle. It is beautiful and has an almost 3D effect with the red / orange jumping off the blue background.
The stem is slightly soft but who cares... the image is great IMO. Markjay

Beautiful and I like the nice blue sky.

Thanks for the comments. Abs is correct - those are the shadows of the pistils on the translucent petals of the flower head and that translucency makes for the brilliant color even though the flower is facing the sun. The sun was slightly to the left of the flower head, you can tell by the shadow of the flower head on the stem - no fill flash - so I guess it is only 80- 90% backlit? Since it's not 100% back-lit, if you think it's off-topic, I'll move it to pending. CJ

Beautiful shot, CJ. Its sidelit, tho. The tip-off is the shadow on the stem: Its exactly half lit, meaning the sun (?..majority of light) is coming from extreme left, not behind. I leave it to you and the voters to decide. Warm fuzzies, -mikey

"This isnt a backlit image." that was my first thought.
then I saw the shadow of the pistil. looking at the dark shadow underneath the flower on stem, I doubt there is any fill light used in this shot. its the translucency of petals that is giving such effect. excellent image CJ.

Nice shot but I agree with Rod that back lighting isn't obvious. Rich

I really like the bright look of this sort of makes me happy:-) But it doesn't seem to look backlit, did you use the flash for the underneath?
Nicely done Carole:-)
