Thanks for the kind words, CJ, Henry & Bill. Yes, Bill, there is a smidge of motion blur. I had the camera on AV and was shocked when I got home and worked this image, finding that it was taken at 1/8s & 225mm. Impressive performance from the IS on the 70-300mm lens; I love it!! CJ, did you ever get yours fixed? Cheers, -mikey

Very Cute! Wonderful look of love on the little guy's face - so human-like. CJ

Now that you mention it, I see a lot of teens with hair that color! :) - Henry

This is a fine capture and should do well in the challenge. There is a surreal quality to it not only from the coloring but also from the motion and tight DOF.

Thanks for the comments, Henry & Mary Anne. It is amazing how closely this Mom and baby resemble human traits and characteristics. I watched them for over an hour. I'm not sure where that coloring came from, Henry. I really hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it. This is of course, an indoor scene, as it's way too cold here for gorillas to be outdoors this time of year. Now that you mention it, I'd guess it is from "full spectrum" fluorescent lighting and his hair highlights(??). Cheers, -mikey

Very interesting photo of a very rare moment. The violet hue on top of the baby's head seems a little odd. Was it reflected light from something the baby gorilla was near? - Henry

Gorillas have so many human traits...this little guy's looking at his mom in much the way a human baby would. What a wonderful capture, Michael.
