This is a wonderful capture! I love your treatment in b&w. I think the boy is isolated just by him looking at you... it is what draws my eye first. jano

Thanks for the feedback all :).

CJ, i've actually emailed the photo to the dad (a lecturer at my university) but I haven't hear anything back yet.
The crop is an interesting idea, but to be honest I can't bear to edit the photo that like.

I normally would have gone with a shallower DOF, but the lens I used was a telephoto lens and this was the best I could do.

Wonderful portrait, and I agree about a shallower DOF but maybe, for this challenge, a tighter crop would make the child more isolated in the photo - maybe down into the child's hair a little and in on the right into the hair. What do you think? Lovely portrait as is and the family should have this one framed! CJ

Yes, very emotive photograph. It really shows the father's love for his son, I would have liked it to have a slightly shallower DOF, not much, but it would further ISOLATE the boy. - Henry

The connection to Isolate does not spring immediately to my eye--it does to my mind when given a moment of thought. So I think it qualifies. I am quite drawn to the face of the boy as intended, particularly by the isolated hairs over the face.

Thanks guys.
I did a lot of thinking about the topic at hand and felt that because of the difference in DOF it would qualify.
This is my first sort of street photography kind of shot and i'm really pleased with it.

Cheers,
