Her concentration is palpable in this shot, great capture, Sue Anne! It looks centered to me! ~Sharon

Thank you Mary Anne for that link, will look into it. Right now, it takes abit of reminding for Lizy to go practice but believe me she's come a long way since Oct. :)
Armin.... daughter started this in Oct so far so good but still hear those squeeky notes. ;0
Rod - I still hear you :)
.........I tend not want to crop it but to me, daughter was center of my framing when I shot it.

Sue Anne, I don't know if your daughter is more interested in violin or fiddle, but here's a link to a local young woman who is making quite a name for herself in fiddling.

We first saw her when she was only about 12 years old and were immediately struck by her musical ability and her stage presence. I thought your daughter might be interested. You can buy CDs through the site if you'd like. The music is really energetic and fun.

If you draw a line from corner to corner & where the line intersects is the centre of the shot, this is where the focal point should be. I know her face is centre from left & right but it's in the top 3rd vertically so there's no weight where the lines intersect. This to me is more of a 3rds weighted shot.
A really nice one but:-)

I think it's center-weighted, Sue Anne. For thirds, I would have cropped it right about where the bluish background begins. The purpose of the challenge seems to be to get us to break away from framing our shots in the standard rule-of-thirds way, and I think you've done that. And eliminating those two distractions from the top left places more emphasis on her face and the line down the middle of the photo, which is accentuated by the vertical shadow.

Thanks Mary Ann :)

Hmmm Rod.... if I crop, I will lose the whole perpective :(
So this is really a thirds picy?
Rod 19-Jan-2007 09:37
Her chin & the bottom of the violin is the center but her face & the rest of the violin which seem to be the focal point are in the 3rds. This can be cropped for centre weighting if you wanted:-)

What a great shot of your daughter, Sue Anne! She is really growing up right before our eyes. One nitpick...do you think you could clone out the picture and light switch in the upper left corner? They really seem to draw the eye away from her face.
