Another good one! The bowl adds a lot of interest and color. CJ

It could well be that this is better with the stem, we will know when we see the other re shoot. It seems to be a toss up that without the stem it would have a stronger graphic quality & with the stem a more photographic quality, giving it movement as Shu said. So in different galleries to each other these are two very strong good shots................
The debate rages...........Your nothing but trouble Techo:-)

Thanks Ann and Shu. I've reshot the pic and I'm more happy with the extra piece of stem included in this shot. It adds the interest that is needed. I'll post the reshot in a few days or less. Still haven't decided if I should move this one to Exhibition, where I have nothing posted yet or just leave these 2 pics here.

I like this with its great color saturation. The stem appears to be dancing above the tomato. It adds a bit of whimsy, IMO. shu

Love this! I especially like the use of the green stem as the most complex shape and the red tomato on the red bowl. Excellent work. Ann C

For or against it's always great to have an in depth chat, I've enjoyed it:-)

Hi everyone. Thanks for the great comments :)

Reason I didnt post this at first was because of the stalk but I really liked the look and feel of the shot otherwise. In my mind I thought it would've worked better without it, I find the stem somewhat distracting. And yes, I agree it's best to show one's best work and not dillute the value of the photos. This is CTF and not just a showcase gallery of my own work. I dont mind posting a shot here that I think isn't 100% perfect because someone might think it is, just different viewpoints. We're here to learn from each other and have fun and these two would've been quite different If I've used a different tomato. I highly value everyone's comments so . Some may like this one more, others the other one, it's always interesting to know why :)

Originally inteded to post this in exhibition but slipped through into Eligible. I'll try to reshoot it. This chat reminds me Cat's challenge (c112 A Thing Explored).

Thanks again everyone.

I would say the one thing more important than light play in a picy is feel. To me this shot has more feel than the other one. Just leaving the green leaf on the tomato & having no stalk this would be a great shot.
The other shot to me is just a well lit pretty picy.

for me personally, this one is not even half as good as the other one.
Composition: even though the tomato is placed off-centered in the frame, there is enough bowl in the frame to realize instantaneously that its centered. then the green just become a common background instead of an important/main element (not that background is not an element).
As people have already compared this one with the other, i think other one has an element far far far better than that of this one. Lighting (and aw!!! that cute little heart..i mean that excellent light play) what else could be more important in a photograph?
oh man!!! thats a long comment. okay...replace everything with this sentence now...

I personally like this because on each focus point (tomato and edge of bowl) you see red and green. This just adds that bit of interest to me...although I also like the other image as well - I think this is my fav. jano

It's nice to see your thinking. This one needs the stalk. I do prefer the first photo. PeteH

Techo strikes again. What a great image.

Who persuaded you to post this Techo, I think they're wrong. Your fist shot had maximum impact & it now gets diluted with this one. You really should only go with the one best shot of the same subject. I'm not really talking about getting votes but an old rule that still applies is to only show people your best work of any given subject. This shot would work well if it didn't have the same tomato stalk as the first shot, it doesn't take much for the same object to become another subject & stand on it's own merits.
Without the stalk I think I would prefer this shot as it seems to have a bit of tension about it. Good shooting mate:-)

Hi Techo, I like this one with the lime green to the right. Yvonne
