After reading half through your post, Gerald, I’ve decided to substitute this cropped version (which—I agree—fits the challenge-topic better), though it has an odd aspect ratio (and here *you* seem to agree with *me*, as I found out when having read your entire comment). I’ll load the original version which I, for myself, still prefer, into the pending folder <http://www.pbase.com/ctfchallenge/image/72062570, hoping to get more opinions on the subject. After covering the right part of your image by the explorer window on my screen I have to agree with Abstract. Cropping the image would really make a big improvement; it would help to concentrate on the tidy house with the green shutters and red flowers. On the other hand I can understand that you do not like the unusual aspect ratio which would not be very harmonic; I do not appreciate it either. Anyway, I like this pic as is. -Gerald

Thanks, Abstract, for commenting. I understand your opinion as far as the crop goes (and share it in the context of this challenge!). Nevertheless, I prefer the image as it stands, and this for two reasons: I want to show the façade as something integrated in the bigger context of the whole street (with just half the bench and a hint of the shutters), *and* I like the broader format (2:3) better. I appreciate, anyway, your letting me know your feelings. — db.

this is so simple and elegant. So many things to look at. i think, if you crop the shot where the pink wall ends, the impact of the photograph increases 100 times. that part adds too many unnecessary extra elements (bench, pipe, two holes, sign) colors (yellow, brown, white) in the photograph. -Abstract
