Thanks Bernard :) I went ahead and updated this post with a recompressed photo, if that's ok with you. Since you now have two versions of this photo in the gallery. Please go ahead and choose one you like best. You can delete one yourself or just say the word.
I'm struggling with all the technicalities but grateful for your efforts to enlighten me. Thanks a lot for your comparisons and the great work with this challenge in general.Regards, Bernard.
No worries about it.
I checked out the new post. Pitty you had to resize the image so much. A lot of the great detail is lost. I also see how this one is a tough one to recompress without resizing. I had to compress this one to 26% quality for it to fit, but you know it still looked pretty good. I couldn't tell the difference if I where not viewing them side by side. Have a look:http://k.1asphost.com/TechoEP/CTF_Pril.htm
oh and btw,the screen capture was using around 55% compression/quality setting so it too should look worse, but looks pretty good.
Great macro shot. This image plays a little trick on the eyes, at first it looks like a lobster shaped silouhuette is sitting on the other side of the leaf, look closer and it's a fly sitting right on top. I especially like the detail captured in the leif's veins. You could try lightening up the fly just a bit, so more detail of it is visible, but not too much.
