They don't exactly act as "leading lines" do they? :) This was the best angle for many reasons, glare of the sun on the sign, building in the background, etc. The green string is "just holding things in place", so that it works. Homemade isn't always pretty, but it's usually functional. Henry

Great find, Henry! I love the colors on this thing! It really looks like a Rube Goldberg contraption, I especially like the green string - what the heck is that doing?! I find the angle of the fence in the background a bit distracting and wonder if there was another angle you could have taken the picture at that would have been as effective but left out the distracting background stuff. On the other hand, it does kind of set the scene. ~Sharon

Whoever made it is very resourceful. Good pic Henry.

Nicely done Henry it looks very good mate:-)

Yes, most home made contraptons are. It's hydraulic, and the large plate pushes the log against the vertical splitting bar. If the log is large enough, the horizontal splitting bars will "quarter" the log, saving time. My concern would be how high you have to lift the log to put it on the splitter! :) Henry

This sure is a strange looking wood splitter! Very rustic. CJ

Very nice find Henry. Hope you didn't buy it, as it looks like a mankiller to me. I don't know anything about wood splitters, but yes it does look home made and they used everything they could find in their yard for parts.

Cool capture of an old wood splitter. Never saw one of these.
