Thanks, Jammy! My thoughts exactly! It won't be getting any more fuel oil from us! ~Sharon

Nice shot, the furnace looks positively sinister from here.
Like an angry creature that must be fed!

Thanks for your input, Mary Anne! Let's hope the third one is the charm! Back to color but a more natural version than the first one. Here are the links to the b&w version and the earlier color one:http://www.pbase.com/elips/image/70007538 and http://www.pbase.com/elips/image/69930116
I am torn between this one and the b&w one, which I like quite a lot. I would be interested to hear what you, or anyone else, thinks! ~Sharon

You know, I think I prefer the color version, but I'd tone it down to more of a sepia.

Thanks, Mary Anne and mon! I really liked that it looks like the furnace has a face and is looking rather horrified to find itself outside, like it would like to go right back down the basement steps to its cosy basement. Mary Anne, I will see what I can do with it, it does seem to be a bit redder than necessary, thanks for your comments. ~Sharon

The stairs are just wonderful, Sharon. And that old tree at the top gives it an almost ominous look...reminds me of a hangman's tree. I wonder how it would look with less saturated colors or even in b & w.

Thanks, Tom! I was taken looking up out of my basement in Upstate NY. The house was built in the 1820s and so has charming things like these stone steps and a dirt floor basement! ~Sharon

love the stairs Sharon.
I'd like to know where the shot was taken..

Thanks, Brent. It was an old wood and coal burning furnace that was converted to oil many years ago and was in the house when we moved in 28 years ago. It was kinda surprised to find itself standing at the top of the basement steps last month! We now have a nice modern, efficient but boring furnace now. ~Sharon
