I hadn't noticed the first change from original to cropped, but I couldn't figure out why the picture didn't appeal to me the same way it had at first. Now that the original is back I am amazed by how necessary the empty space is for allowing me to "see" the rainbow.

If I was a better photographer it would have. But no. Sorry! It was a nice idea!
Paul 06-Nov-2006 04:31
Well it was a good idea anyway:) The crop didn't really work did it?

Here's the crop I tried that didn't really work out:

All right Rod, I think I have to agree with you. (Not about listening to Paul, but about the original shot!) Paul couldn't have known that I can't focus on anything anymore. It was a nice suggestion! So I'll replace this with the original!
Rod 05-Nov-2006 08:54
The original works a lot better for me. Your biggest mistake wiv this shot was listening to Paul:-)

I think so too Rod, I mean the colors. Seemed like there was more red or something. What happened? Lovely shot Christina... jano

Can you post the original Christina so we can compare? If me memory serves me correctly the rainbow looked nicer in your first shot, this seems to make it look like coloured noise, it also as you say emphasises the lack of focus that wasn’t as obvious in the first shot.

Thanks to your son Sue Anne! And thanks to you for passing it on!

Son said this was 'cool' :) Beautiful .

I think I do like what this does to the colors better. But I'm afraid that it makes evident that I can't focus on anything anymore. Any other opinions? -Christina

Thanks all! And thanks Paul for the crop idea. I'll try it out!

Interesting photo but i'd prefer a quite sever crop to lose all of the right hand side and that bright area at the top of the rainbow so all we looked at was the plant and those fabulous colours to the left.

Nicely seen, I would have focused my lens at that water spray itself :-) Markjay

Nice self created rainbow Christina!

Beautiful, I love rainbows too; they let you know the rain has passed! Henry D

I like the way the rainbow looks - like a pointallist painting! CJ

Thanks for all the awesome comments! It's funny but when I took it I didn't even know the challenge yet, and well, there it was! Yeah, it's just a sprinkler and the sun.

I also love rainbows. I have many unconventional prisms around me to try and "catch" rainbows. They really are magical (even though I know how they're made too!) They just make me smile. I'm glad that you guys all like this shot! ;)

I love rainbow shots and this is very pretty, Christina. :)
ctfchallenge27-Oct-2006 14:42
Christina, I love this! How funny we both posted these at the same time. I think rainbows are magical when they appear in water. (even though I understand the dynamics of it LOL) Yvonne

Geez Christina, it is a little early in the contest to be throwing down the gauntlet like this. Good find.
Rod 27-Oct-2006 11:38
It does look good dunit, well done Christina:-)
I would think Christina used a sprinkler to water her garden Tom & presto a ray of sunlight & some great camera skills for a girly shot of the day:-)
