Sharon thank you for your comment. This canyon is indeed a feast for the eyes. Light conditions there differ widly, and many pictures need contrast level techniques applied to open the shadows and darken the hilights (e.g., combine images exposed for the shadows with exposed for highlights).

The colors and shapes in this are wonderful. It is too bad you didn't have a tripod. Did you try a shot that you thought might be too dark? I do that sometimes when there is no tripod and am frequently pleased with the dramatic results. ~Sharon
