Those dunes look wicked. Great job with the exposure and composition. Hope you got a zoomed in shot of the top 3rd portion of the photo. I'm adding this location to my list of places to visit in the U.S.

excellent work, Jano. I am really glad that you included the foreground details; and resisted the temptation of having only sand-dunes and sky in the image. i like this wide-angle effect. very well exposed/processed too. -Abstract

This is a truly awesome image Jano. Great work! Hope you had a nice vacation.

Thanks Sue Anne, Rod, and CJ for your thoughts. I wasn't too keen on any cropping either, as I took it exactly as I wanted it to be seen, which doesn't happen all that often. I've been really trying to improve on that aspect. :) jano

Jano, I really like this crop "as is". The 3 layers of dunes is visually interesting and if the bottom were cropped more it would divide the dunes too equally into thirds and, to my eye, also throws the proportions of the picture off. Besides, I like those front dunes for this challenge topic of repeating patterns. Great lighting and nice sky too! CJ

Beautiful ! This could be divided into two pictures. Breathtaking landscape and yes natures patterns all over in this shot.

Geez I can see the picy Mary Anne recommends & it does look good as it becomes a more dramatic picy. But somehow I like the foreground dune as it gives me a sense of place.

Thanks Carla, Erika, Mary Anne, Rod, b.c., and Sharon for your comments/suggestions. This is an uncropped version of the original photo. I believe it was taken at the top of the sand dune that I climbed (took us over an hour to do this climb!) or very close to the top. Taken about 5:00 p.m., as the sun was getting lower in the sky to afford the shadows. The views were breathtaking and the wind relentless for most of our stay. I also have photos of the wind and sand whipping by and I felt that I was literally on a carnival ride. This is the only photo I have processed so far. I chose this shot for the challenge for the layers of patterns it provided. I think I can downsize the image further, or even crop more off the bottom per Mary Ann's suggestion. I would be interested to have your opinions with regard to cropping? I'll try to pull in the full exif as well. Don't know why this isn't done automatically. jano

So glad to see you made it there, Jano! And a really fine image for your trouble getting there. I like the four layers of patterns in this, including the sparse random patterns in the middle part. The play of light and shadow in the dunes section is fantastic, truly beautiful! ~Sharon

a variety of fantastic patterns here, from the soft flowing ripples in the foreground to the much more dramatic dunes in the background. beautiful! - b.c.

The shot does have some drama compared to the more pristine sand dune shots Ive seen, so you did really well to come up wiv something a bit different. Good onya Jano well done:-)

Gorgeous shot, Jano! I love the play of light and shadow, and you have captured wonderfully rich colors as well. I wonder if you would consider cropping off the entire light-colored area of sand in the foreground, as it draws the eye away from the dramatic shadows. I know that the topic is patterns, but I think that the swirls of the sand dunes are pattern enough, and it makes for a more powerful image without the foreground.

I love this pic! I didn't even know there ARE sand dunes in Colorado. Great job!
