Stefan - when i saw this thumbnail while browsing days ago I was intrigued. Now by way of posting comments and opening the image to size I do feel it is out of focus on the main element of the image which is the matches themselves. I see the wires or honeycomb thing being more in focus than the matches. I don't have a dslr (gosh I wish i did!) but perhaps your focus was out of line here? Obviously, as others have said, worth some more experiment and a reshoot. Good imagination and eye here... Love the concept. jano

I like this Stefan and if you have time to shoot this again with a greater DOF, that would be great. How did it look in color? It might be fun to see the colors and texture of the matchsticks and the box if you thought they looked good. CJ

Good idea worthy of a reshoot to get it sharper Stefan.

Thank you for the comments. It did come out a bit softer than what I would have liked especially when I downsized the image for pbase (original is sharper). The focus was sharp on the honeycomb (striking part of box) but I should have stopped it down a bit to get the matches sharper. I may reshoot it at some point (I'm out of town right now).

Thanks again

I like the different layers of this photo, the smoothness of the bottom box, the straight edges of the match sticks and the honeycomb of the box top. As was stated below, with the sharpness of the top and bottom, the matchsticks should also be a little sharper. The framing wasn't a problem for me, it didn't detract from the photo at all.

Yes without the fancy border the shot may work better, when I cropped the silly border out I quite liked the look of the softness in this shot & just saw the patterns more. Nice shot Evil mate:-)

Very good, particularly the clashing patterns of the matches and honeycombs of the box or whatever it is. I'd like to see a sharper emphasis on the matches though.

I like the composition, the simple yet repeating subject, and the B/W treatment, although I do wish it were a bit sharper, particularly the matches themselves. - b.c.
