Simply fantastic. I have no more words.

thanks Rod, & Brent. Ok Rod, I get where you're coming from with up above vs looking down. This was looking down below on the city, though I can see how it may not convey that strongly. oh well, I'll leave it to the hosts if they really want to move it to pending - there's no point arguing it as this is just exhibition anyhow -- meanwhile I'll concentrate on finding more shots for eligible. thanks for your feedback and taking the time to look - b.c.

Very nice shot B.C. I agree with Rod the color crop has more of a looking down effect, but I think this image is more impressive overall.
Rod 01-Sep-2006 08:34
The colour shot has more of a look down look to it than this B&W crop. Up above & looking down can be two totally different perspectives & I think looking down was what Jano was after. But she did muddy the waters, so anything goes:-)

hi Sharon, thanks for convincing me :)
I used a different frame that was shot the same day, in colour and with a wider crop in one of the mini-challenges. here is that version, see what you think:

Thanks for putting this back, b.c.! I like it very much, the play of light and shadow is fascinating! I do kind of wonder what it looked like in color, although I think the b&w is very effective. ~Sharon

ok, back again here - Sharon convinced me :) pardon the "flip flop" - b.c.
p.s CJ - yes Vancouver's a beautiful place, you really should visit!
ctfchallenge01-Sep-2006 01:24
thanks CJ - actually, I was having 2nd thoughts about putting this in Pending before I saw your comment...
Thinking about what to shoot for Eligible, I'm not sure now to what degree of "above" the shots need to be. This one was after all 1100m above sea level and looking down on the city below - it's just a short drive across a bridge from downtown you see here and up a gondola to the top. I'm sure the angle of view downwards was greater than some of those other shots...
hmmm, maybe time to ask for clarification in the challenge thread - as I say, I'm now not sure what to shoot for Eligible!

This is a fantastic shot b.c. and I agree, it is no more off topic than many of the landscape or cityscape shots in exhibition. If this one has to go to pending, then the others should too! ;-)

I really have to get up to Vancouver - I hear it is really beautiful and this looks like a great vantage point for an overall view of the city! :-) CJ

thanks RK
ok, it's off to Pending then, I found a couple others that are more on-topic - though I think there's a few others in exhibition that are probably no more "above" than this one :)

Awesome shot. - RK

Rod & Jano - thanks for your comment. I was above the fog looking down (albeit at an angle) so I wasn't sure if this fits. but ok, I'll try to find some others... - b.c.

B.C., I don't really get a feeling that the cam is pointed down, but more across the cloud top. If that is the case, probably not on topic and you should find another work of art to replace it. :) Very dramatic shot though. jano
Rod 31-Aug-2006 11:15
I have me doubts like you as to whether this shot is on topic b.c. even though you were higher than the city you probably didn't have to point your camera down much to get the shot. We shall see wot the others think. Great looking shot though:-)
