Thanks Jano, Jam, Britt, and Rod. This board, like the Scrabble board, is made of wood and has a varnish coating. I think that is what is creating the warm feel to the photo.

Great shot, I prefer the larger version..
Love the lighting gives a warm feel to the photo :).
I like the DOF and focus the way they are.

Both shots are excellent for this challenge, well done Neo:-)
It's hard to compare a small shot with a larger shot but if the alternate one enlarges to look like it does small then I think I would like that shot better as it has a sort of better design element with the five red houses & two black dice interacting with each other. Very nicely done mate:-)

This photo and the alternate below are from the original idea I had for a Monopoly shot. I wanted the picture to tell the story of someone who had just rolled the dice and were about to land on Boardwalk with hotels. I spent about 45 minutes trying to get the shoot right, but I never could quite capture all of the right elements. Eventually, I gave up and switched board games. The Scrabble shot took about 5 minutes to compose and shoot. Go figure.

The title and the shot doesn't jive. The Focused area is on the dice. What I suspect should be the focus are the two forefront houses located at the "High Rent District". Good effort though.
