Thanks Alexeig for the very nice compliment :) jano

This is very, very nice. I like the palette and the light has the quality of the paintings of old masters

I have redone this image. I actually thought that with my revised version it lacked the detail that was in the original. Followed RK's suggestion again, but not to the extent. I'm satisfied now with the outcome. jano

Thanks all - perhaps i could have used a higher ISO to achieve the PS effect and stopped down more.. Took this at ISO 50 and was pretty much stopped down as far as i dared as the sunlight was hitting the carrots which are in a paper sack. I am really trying to work on my cam skills to make interesting compositions and using available light and use less PS on the whole. jano

Nice.
You can lighten an image the same way, but use SCREEN instead of multiply.

Wow, that RK is a very handy guy. I like the next image much better. I'm going to have to make time to learn more PS tricks myself.

Thank you RK for giving me that nify tip. No Rod, it was really simple. Thanks for commenting Paul. I like this version better as well. jano
Paul 28-May-2006 06:32
This version is very good and i really like the way the bottom carrot fades into darkness like an outstretched finger.
Rod 28-May-2006 05:57
Well I won't be relying on my memory any more the second shot looks much better. I will have to learn the RK layers thingy. Was it as tricky as it sounded?
janewigginsphotography28-May-2006 05:31
I hope I do this right.. (cause i'm kinda tired hehe) original posted image jano
Rod 28-May-2006 05:25
I suppose you could say it now has pop, but I sort of like what to me was a sort of film look to the other shot. Sort of more natural & I think I like the fact the top carrot wasn't so digitally sharp. I would have to reference the first shot again to know for sure.
janewigginsphotography28-May-2006 05:13
Processed now with RK's suggestion. jano

Thanks RK - I have the original tiff saved so I will work to see if I can tone it down a bit. Again, i think it has to do with the different colors of carrots I tried here. jano

Excellent lighting here Jano. I do find the top carrot to be a bit soft...think the top carrot is probably 1 stop over-exposed (forgive the jargon)...which can be easily corrected in PS
- duplicate layer
- choose multiply for layer merge
- set opacity to 12% (think it indicates 1 stop)
- Flatten

And apply a bit of USM.
Probably there are better ways...this is what I know.

Thanks for your comments Rod... Actually these carrots are "seasonal" as they come in red, orange and yellow. I had never seen them before but picked some up at the local coop. They do make a colorful presentation when served and taste the same as ordinary carrots do. We have red at the bottom, orange as the focal point, with a yellow in the background :) jano
Rod 28-May-2006 04:41
Forgot to add that I like the shot as is because of the difference in the carrots:-)
Rod 28-May-2006 04:10
I think what might be happening here is the carrots below have a rougher less clean look making it look as though they may be sharper. I think the top carrot is sharp but it also has a smoother look than the bottom ones.
janewigginsphotography28-May-2006 02:41
The top carrot is IMO totally in focus MaryAnne. It seems sharp and clear to me. Thanks for commenting Rod and Mary Anne. Obviously I can try reshoots :) jano
ctfchallenge28-May-2006 01:12
Good colors, Jano, but the main carrot doesn't look quite in focus.

Fantastic look on this shot Jano, the lighting is a real treat giving it a nice mood. Good girl I love it:-)
