I think you're right about the releases, Rod...otherwise, I think we'd all be in a lot of trouble. I often offer people a print when they're nice enough to pose for me, so I simply got his name and address--no release.

Great work Mary Anne luv the tones too. I think you only need a release if you will be selling the picys, otherwise their fair game:-)

Terrific portrait Mary Anne! Great composition, pose and colors. I like the look of concentration in his face that you captured so nicely :-) CJ

Sharon, I spoke with him both before and after taking this shot. In fact, that funny little pencil he's using is mine, and he's writing his name and address for me so I can send him a couple of photos. He was a very friendly young man, and he thanked me for telling him about a new exhibit on an exchange of art between Iraqi and American children that had just been hung in the library. (I went to look at one of the pictures that was hanging right behind him, and when I saw him there I had to get a shot.) BTW there's an article in the most recent Pop Photo about getting people to sign releases for photos, and it kind of gave me the nerve to do this.

Great shot, Mary Anne! I have to ask, did you ask his permission before you shot this? Did you talk with him about it after you shot it? I just never know how to handle shots of people I don't know. ~Sharon

I think it's great! I like the spot of light on his shirt and the background color is a good choice for the shot. Very nice! shu

Well, he was sitting among the stacks in a corner of the library, so I guess he was kind of cramped. LOL

his pencil is so small! :-P I like the expression you caught here. overall the image has a good, warm feel to it and the red tones look nice and vibrant. there is something about the composition/crop that i can't put my finger on though.. maybe it's that he seems just a bit cramped in the frame or something.
