Thanks Sharon & Brent:-)

Rod, I like this a lot. And this version does work better than the earlier one. And, you are right, without the sign it would be off-topic and outa here! :-) This is a very interesting image, I think, because, we look at the beautiful landscape that speaks to our souls and modern life does nothing but put warning signs up on the beauty. Good work, Rod! ~Sharon
Brent 26-Feb-2006 21:31
Wow Rod! I think I remember having a quick look at your similar image which was nice, but this one really caught my attention. Nice work.
Rod 26-Feb-2006 04:48
Thanks all, I feel overwhelmed:-) Mary Anne I had to have a sign in the shot because Sharon is a tyrant when she runs a challenge & would have deemed it off topic. But I think you're referring to me only taking challenge shots lately, yes a bad habit forming here but somehow I need that incentive in me old age. Even though I'm enjoying taking the shots. But as we tell the kids "do as we say not as we do"
hehe:-)

That's one awesome scene. You've exposed the image so well. The highlights, shadows and colors turned out just perfect. For outside the challenge topic, I hope you got some shots from the sand, just sky, ocean and sand and maybe the occasional beach goer.

much better Rod. Looks great.

This is awesome. I love the contrast in colors between the sky and the waves.--Paty

This is better, Rod, but I'd still like it more without the sign. Remember what you've told me (and others) more than once: take photos that YOU like, not something that you think the voters will go for.

Somehow I like this much more than your original post. Great sky, contrast and the tiny silouette. Too bad that there is so much detail on the warning, but this is not your fault. I wonder how it would look in b/w

This is great Rod - I had to reread your post to realize this is a different perspective of your first posted image. I like the person at the very end of the path as it adds more interest cropped this way. You did an excellent job on the pp as well - just popping the image out. Very well done. I hope you keep this image here !!! jano

I like this shot much better than the one posted earlier - great sky and ocean and the composition is more interesting too. It's nice now that you can now see the sign better too. I like that lone figure down there - the path leads the eye right to him/her. Nice shot Rod :-) CJ
Rod 25-Feb-2006 13:43
I took the easy way out & found another shot which is closer to your crop Lee even though its a vertical, thanks mate:-) Jano this time I used the lasso on the sign & kept it away from the PP & then boosted the lightness a bit, thanks gorgeous:-)
Rod 25-Feb-2006 04:35
Thanks Jano & Fly I will have a go with your suggestions & thanks for the link Lee. No way redundant Jano I think I can follow your instructions & look forward to learning a new trick. Thanks both:-)

Rod,

Added a few more suggestions here:

I am sure you can do better with the original.

I would crop out the sign on the right and level the ocean. Great shot Rod.

Rod - PS tip - you can try it and have some fun and xp with it if you wish. I won't go into layers or other details... Pick a soft brush from the tools pallete about the size of the inside of the sign and change the mode on top to "overlay". Then pick a white foreground color. Change your opacity on top to anywhere from 5% to 20% (you can xp with this). Brush away and you will see the lightening occur. Maybe you already know this and I apologize if I'm redundant. jano
Rod 24-Feb-2006 21:25
Thanks girls:-) I tried to brighten up the signs Jano but with me PS skills you could see an uneven lightness. I took the picy by lining up the leaning signs without worrying about the horizon:-) Its strange Mary Anne I seem to be taking picys only for the challenges & not so much for meself, I will have to get out of doing that as I'm driving everyone mad by changing picys all the time:-)

I agree. It's a beautiful view--marred by the inclusion of those signs--and you've really captured the dramatic clouds well. I hope you took other shots without the annoying signs. I know, I know...you had to include them for the sake of this challenge topic.

Breathtaking image - is the beach slanted downard to the right, or is that the natural curvature? I might also add a little brightness to the signage as my eye of course is drawn right down the path - i'd like to have the signs distract me a bit. If this wasn't a typography challenge, this would be a great image without the signs in some lovely light. jano
