A black mat would certainly enhance the photo, but since this has not been framed nor is it on the wall, I'd go with this narrower black border, which seems to be just enough to delineate the photo from the gray background..

The narrow one does it for me Sharon. One of the main disadvantages of camera clubs & forums like this is that over time we start to take shots that we sub consciously think the other members will like & our shots start to have a similar look & feel. So you liking the wider border is the way you should go for this shot. I know what you mean about the wider matt when hanging this on a wall, but the main difference for me is when I view picys on the wall the frame & matt disappear & I can just view the picy. But here on a monitor the matt or frame is very noticeable & usually can distract from viewing the picy. The time it took me to type this & having your picy on me screen really convinces me the thinner border takes noting away from the great look of this shot. I hope others give their opinion on this.
Thanks, May Anne! So, Rod, here is the narrower border. Thank you for going through this with me but I think I still like the wider one better. It's like in real life when you hang a print, putting a black mat on it makes it stand out more. Anyone else have an opinion? I will post the wider border image so you can compare, see the next image. I will remove one before voting. ~Sharon
Sharon, I saw you taking this shot but never thought it would turn out so nicely. There's a certain delicacy to the greenhouse with all the dark foliage around it and the fog/mist behind it. Well seen.

I downloaded your picy Sharon to try & see wot you were getting at, & removed the border to compare it with the bordered one. When I used windows viewer which has a white background I could see you were correct a black border was better for the shot. But when I viewed it on a darker background such as we have at Pbase the border didn't seem so necessary. So a good compromise might be a thinner border as you suggested.. The missus loves this shot.
Thanks, guys. Believe me this does need a border, a mat. You will note that this is the first mat I've used. I wanted a color to bring out the darkness of the tree trunks and to contain all of the foliage. I will try it with a narrower one. ~Sharon

very nice composition but rod is right [again?]. Ditch the border or at least make it thinner...

You have created a really nice scene with the delicate nature of the glass house & surroundings, but the big butch black border doesn't help this shot at all.
