ANXIETY * (self-portrait)

I am going through a difficult time right now. I know that a lot of what I get stressed over is out of my control - so I should immediately stop myself from letting it affect me so much. BUT, I still let things affect me, and too much. I want to overcome this anxiety.

oh WOW! a really powerful image. I like the lighting here, just wouldn't be the same without the red glow.

btw, warm welcome to the CTF challenges. I really look forward to your future posts.

what an excellent way to start with these challenges, Tiffany. i am glad you could join us. welcome. i always always like moody/intense portraits and this is no different. i like the use of negative space a lot. btw did you try the negative space on left (landscape composition) instead of at the top? i roughly tried it myself and looked more intense/lost. just a suggestion...this is nice as it is too. -Abstract

: ) that sounds like a great idea. I will have to get some bubble bath this week.

Nice job Tiffany!~ It is not easy to pose and shoot at the same time. I like the composition and the red screams stress/anxiety. Now, how about a nice peaceful, warm bath? Yvonne

Wow! to get one off the bat like that is great! Compliments to you! jano

That's funny jano because you ARE looking into a mirror. I shot this with my camera in my right hand.

it was actually a pretty spontaneous shot. last night I was just experimenting with lighting and shooting in manual mode. i took lots of self-portraits in the mirror. and when i took this i wasnt even thinking about the challenge. later when i was loading the pictures into my computer i realized that this would be perfect to enter.

and this was the ONLY shot i took of myself "screaming". so no stress there. i am so happy with the results now of this image. : )

I feel like I'm looking into a mirror!!! Saw the before crop and like this much better! :) I hope you didn't have to take too many reshoots to get what you liked as that would have been stressful in itself !!! Wonderful image and I really like the color as well. jano

ok, I think I've come to my decision. I added MORE space. and I really am happier with this than either of the other two. Yes. the longer I look at this version the more I like it. So I think I'll let this be now.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. And no need to apologize, Armin. No trouble was made. : ) I appreciate all the input.

I agree with Lee. \Oved

Both are good. I like the first crop better.

Ok, ok, sorry for making trouble, now that I do see the direct comparison, I think the empty space over the head in the first shot really fullfills its purpose. I agree, this now is more anger than anxiety ...although both shots are very strong :)

hmm, yesterday when I submitted this I thought the exact same thing as Armin and Andy. but i was too tired to go back in PS and fix it and repost. I do feel partly both ways.

i changed it to the tighter crop though. and I fully understand what rod is saying, and this does make it seem more like anger..although part of my anxiety IS anger.. eh, I can't decide. if you havent seen the original, taller-framed version you can view it here:http://www.pbase.com/upupcanadian/image/54771295. i guess i'll think about today and i might end up changing the crop back..

and glad you like this guys.

Haha:-) just as I posted the comments below the cropped verion was uploaded:-)
Just as I thought, I see outrage & anger now instead of a mental issue. So it's up to you Tiffany to see which shots speaks the emotion you were after.
Rod 13-Jan-2006 11:56
I don't agree about cropping this shot as in this mental state one feels lost alone & helpless which the space helps to reinforce. Cropping would make the intention of the shot appear to be anger which I don't think it is..... Personally speaking of course:-)
Great work Tiffany.

I would agree with Andy, I think it would even increase the dramatic impact! Very powerful picture!!!

This is a very powerful image Tiffany. Personally, I would crop top and bottom. See what others think.
