* When Gulliver felt lonely

Atlanta

"The King treated Gulliver like a royal and was never allowed to realize that he was all alone. The King did not want Gulliver to leave... until one day Gulliver ran out of his favorite drink... and he wasn't impressed with what was offered by the King of the Lilliputians ..."

For the first time Gulliver felt "All alone" in the land of the strange...

Impression of his miserable state.... based on 18th century novel by Jonathan Swift.

Photo of an idea about how it would look now, had it been taken 200 years back for the novel... Thanks for asking. -Cat

Thanks for looking Britt, Hope you are feeling better...
The quality of B&W was not that great 200 years back, so sepia was chosen for the reproduction. Also the sepia gives a "old" look and feel all by itself. The B&W was a little stark for me. Also the quality of the film used then as quite grainy. The Tri-X 400 was not yet invented by then, so the grainy-ness adds the old-film, silver-iodide or silver-bromide faded print look.... May be I am talking gebrish, LOL :) -Cat

I think I might like this better in B&W. Not sure I like the noise added here. I don't really know why. Could be my medication too. LOL!!

Thanks Shu, Alexei and Yvonne. I am glad you liked the newer version. -Cat

I do like this better now, it looks more old and faded rather than light and new. Good job ! Yvonne

After checking your original and previous copy, I do like this one best. It looks better opened since you can appreciate the detail right down to the hairs on your chiney-chin-c..(oops!) arms......lol shu

Clever idea and nicely executed.

Abs, Yes I am glad to be back!
Thank for the feedback. Darn! You noticed the 1988 date! I tried to change it to 1788, but I couldn't do a good job, it looked crude, so I just let it be... regarding the liquor chocolates... I felt the small bottles were of the right size and would add interest with some famous names already on them. Didn't have access to any other bottle, when I was thinking about the idea... -Cat

Photocat, glad to see you back, not to mention, with your usual conceptual shots. i like it. even the post-processing.
for the *...200yr old photo of a 18yr old (1988) bottle? knowing you, i thought you wouldnt have missed that detail (modify 1988 to 1788 or cloned it out). and why liquor chocolates, instead of small bottles?
in any case, this is a fun shot...i like it. -Abstract

Thank you Jano, Techo and Britt F. I am glad that you all liked it.
Jano, the little people are scared of the camera (they have never seen one!) so I will try to take their photos and add them when they are ready! :) -Cat
Techo, I was thinking on it, and you convinced me that noise would add more to the photo. Thanks for the advice. -Cat
Britt F, Thanks for the feedback. Since you too noticed the "too light" look along with Yvonne and Techo's hint, I made it a little darker, or less faded depending on how you look at it. Hope it helps. -Cat
Would appreciate any comments on the changes. Personally I like the newer version better than the previous one.
For reference here are the earlier version:

I like the idea and comp, but I have to agree that it is a bit too light, even to look faded. Very creative setup though~
ctfchallenge04-Nov-2005 06:51
A really fun idea! :)
The all smooth and white surface is a bit out of place for this shot but How about a little noise to go along with the old faded look?

Hi Cat! Could you compose a few "little people" as well? :) Such a creative shot With it being a 200 yr old photo, it is well composed and you did well on reproduction :) !! Great concept here and I appreciate your interpretion to the highest degree. jano

Thanks Yvonne
Its 200 years old photo (that I am reproducing) so it looks a bit faded ... -Cat

I am no doubt too "conventional" still in my photography, but I find it a bit too light. The idea is cute. Yvonne
