I too very much like this shot. The overall composition works really well. It really picks up on the sad side of the "All Alone" feel and thus I think the warm lighting works here. If it was me, I honestly would be sitting in the total darkness hehe, but if lights where an option this is what I would've picked, just the most minimal light in the room. I didn't pick up on the dead look till someone mentioned it, so perhaps that's not such a big deal.

Thank you alexeig, photocat, pedro.
alexeig, oh man...crucified look? closed-eyes gives 'sleeping' look...face-in-shadow gives 'passed out' look...even open-eyes gives dead/crucified look...i dont know what will give 'lonely' look :)
photocat, 'bluish' hue/monotone on the image was the first post-processing i tried. it looked way too 'cold'. just imagine, people gets 'dead' feeling with this, then what will happen with 'cold/blue' treatment? someone will suggest 'sofa-morgue' title for it hehehehe :) imho, the warmth of the photo gives the shot alive/lonely/blue/sad/ feeling.
Pedro, i am glad i am able to develope some sort of 'style' in my photography.
thanks for comments friends. -Abstract

I like it Abs, that's your style...

Hey Abs, Nice concept and nice comp for the blues shot. Have to agree with most of the comments below. (*) The lighting is good, the only thing I can add is "blues" vs. warmth in the lighting. I find the light too warm, would have prefered a much colder light. I like the work none the less. -Cat

Well, you almost got this crucified look

Thank you Jano. btw, dont you know, mood is directly related to the clothing? :) infact shirt did not reflect appropriate light and did not create shadows at all...so the photo looked very inanimated. hence, decided to try without it.
Thank you Yvonne. personally, i couldnt differentiate between sad/dead/thinking look in this sort of moody/dim lighting. thats why i kept my eyes so that it looks open, reflect light and look alive. i am glad you like lighting. thats my favourite thing too. its fun to play with lights/shadows in any photograph.

Abs, You are such a good little model. I think it has a bit of a "dead" look rather than blues. Of course, I suppose one would be pretty darn sad if you were dead.
The lighting is as always right on. Yvonne

Paul - girls never take off their shirts when they are blue silly! They take a hot bath with lots of bubbles, oil, and candlelight, then put on their flannels. :) jano
Paul 03-Nov-2005 09:30
Jano, you ever get blue? You know really blue and want to take your shirt off in the name of art? :>))))
janewigginsphotography03-Nov-2005 04:58
Yes - now you definitely have the blues. I like it when guys take their shirts off when they are blue :) Great shot and perfect lighting. jano

I love this shot, Abstract! I didn't see it when you first posted, but it looks perfect now. shu

Much better Abs, it helps the mood no end.

Paul, now it fades into darkness. i had that in my mind while post processing the previous attempt, i dont know why did i miss it this time. thanks a lot for pointing it out. -Abstract

You can't please us all. The version i think i first saw yesterday and never made a comment at the time was darker and moodier and preferable to this. I don't need to see your facial features to get the sense of being alone. I feel you've got the blues from boredom rather than alone. I do like though where you and the lamp are but i'd prefer the right hand side of the photo to fade into total blackness. Moodiness again see? You got 3 entries you know:>)

Very nice shot. The level of detail and moodiness work well for me if your head were more upright to know you weren't falling asleep. I guess if your face was illuminated just a little more it would be easier to see the the depressed expression (I can see it if I look hard) and the leaning head would be just fine. Still a great shot and idea.

I like your face Abs (I really really do:), but don't necessarily need to see it in this shot - I was speaking more towards a different body posture :) I would LOVE to decorate your walls but with all your nice photos, I'm sure you have a diamond mine of lovely photos you can hang. :)? jano
ctfchallenge30-Oct-2005 20:14
Lee, Britt, Jano...Thank you for your comments. All valid points. i intentionally avoided face details but looks like that wasnt the right decision. i just wanted to play with lights and tried to express emotions through 'body'. Britt (and Jano you too, if possible for you) you are most welcome to my place. i dont have anything on my walls, except a dart board :) -Abstract

Very moody shot Abs :) * With your pose here, it's hard to see whether you are blue or passed out :-0. I think just a tad bit more light (not much depending on the pose of the subject) and a different take on positioning would bring the blue or loneliness out in this image more. jano
Britt F 30-Oct-2005 12:45
Abs, the lighting is nice. I think you need your head back a bit more, as well. I think I'm gonna have to come over and get some stuff up on your walls for you!

Abstract, I like the concept, but I think it could benefit with being able to see your face. theFly
