Alone at Dawn * by jstrong

Taken on the Mississippi River when at this time of year one wakes up to the fog on the river and then to a bright sunny day. The sun is just barely making it through the fog - the island in the distance and the benches which everyone should be at this time of the day to see the beauty of it all.

Thanks for commenting Alexeig - I was able to get many pics of the fog on the river. This view, however, gave off the nice sunlight shadow coming from the right with the benches to accentuate the shadow. A barge had just passed through and I was a little upset at missing it, but it gave a nice effect on the water. Would have missed the island then :) jano

Great light, it looks like taken from a dream. * I imagine you have different frames of this and you showed what looks best. I feel that it could be different possibilities with the framing of benches

This creates a wonderful mood! I have often tried shooting lone benches and have never quite "made the grade." You have shown just how much the misty atmosphere meant in the total creation of this beautiful scene. shu

Sorry about all those duplicate comments...I'm on my sister's computer and using a different browser, and it didn't seem to be recording my comment the first...or second...or third...or fourth time. I'd delete them if I knew how, but at this point I should probably leave well enough alone.

It does give a great sense of solitude, Jano. I like it.

Thanks all for the comments! I did take David's advice and cloned out the bit of upper left blue patch in the sky :) Perhaps I do thrive on abuse cause I've had a lot of it lately lol... jano

David, why are you saying sorry for giving your opinion? Being polite is very nice, but you should never apologise for giving your opinion mate..............Plus Jano thrives on abuse:-)

Simply beautiful, Jano.

Beautifully shot. The whole look and feel captures a mood wonderfully and draws the viewer intothe picture. If I could change anything - and this is a fantastically small thing to mention (sorry!) - I would've cropped it or cloned out that tiny patch of lighter cloud top left hand corner - but that's just me.

Well done! Wish I had such a superb entry.

I love this one, the view is beautiful and the mood is perfect. One of my favourite songs of all time is called Small Hours by John Martyn from 1977 and it's a 10 minute long moody piece of folky ambience with geese and ducks waking in the background and the hum of the earth all around with a breathtaking simple verse of melody in the middle of it all. It feels hopelessly sad and makes you want to wallow in melancholy and this photo captures that feel. Well bloody done.

You're very, very lovely , going to take you home
Say you'll be my ruin
But i just don't care
'Cos i love you so.
