Duluth, MN

Taken at Canal Park in Duluth, Minnesota, where the ships enter and leave the port. He was sitting all by himself, perhaps reminiscing about voyages of past. I kick myself, now, for not sitting down and talking to him.

This was a very powerful picture and as they say a picture says a 1000 words. I know the guy in the picture and his name is Jim. When I was a kid he would often be walking around downtown MPLS and several times he ate with our family at the old forum on 7th St. As far as I remember, Jim was always sort of a loner and always very quiet. I really do wish someone would answer my question. LOL

Emotion seems to ooze from this image. The guy looks . . . I dunno . . . sometimes I think he's on the verge of tears and others, just lost in thought. The simple colours work really well and the peeling paint on the bench and wall seem to fit well with the demeanour of the man. Beautifully captured, but I am left wondering if the guy is okay!

Did you just ask this guy to take his picture? The problem I have with guys like this is I feel like I am invading their privacy when I want to take their pictures. Like I did this morning with the "Tin Man." That's why I was so far away and it ended up partially blurred and I ended up deleting it from the challenge. (Thanks Armin.) How do you go about getting close shots like this of strangers without making them feel worse and more lonely?

Kevin, this is an excellent picture and it really conveys emotion. Like the colors and the subtle shadows on the wall. The only suggestion (*) would be to crop out the dead space on extreme right (facing the picture) where the wall ends.
