Thanks for the reply :). I see what you're saying, I agree the water splash is the star in this pic and it wouldn't be as fun with it blurred out too much.
So looks like this photo is the perfect compromise. As Rod ;) would say, the most important thing as that you like the photo, well I do too.

People vote without actually stopping to look at all the pictures first?!? (I say that with incredulity yet knowing that I am quite capable of doing exactly that.)

I have takes of this where the spoon is in focus and the water is almost completely a blur. I almost chose one of those, but I thought that the glassy quality of the water was the effect I wanted to document the most, so instead I picked a picture with the focus elsewhere. The narrow depth of field was almost a necessity considering the lighting I had and the desire for as fast a shutter speed as I could manage. I'm generally fond of very narrow DOF anyway.

It was very difficult picking which shot of the many I have that I liked the most, I figure whatever choice I made would be a mistake on some level.

Great catch and a wonderful idea. Sadly if one is rushing through the gallery the impact of this photo could sadly be lost, becuase once you get it, it's so neat. Whomever opens this one get's a really fun image to look at. (*) Like Jano said, the soft dreamy look works but I was also wondering how it would like if the spoon was just a tad more in focus. I know how hard it is getting these water shots in focus.
All in all it's a great shot and a wonderful touch with the drain plug below.

I didn't notice the spoon right away either - what a wonderful, shot - like the colors reflected in the spoon and the dreamy soft look of this photo. jano

What spoon, I don't know how many times I had looked and not realised. What a great shot, still think the sink plug is necessary. - Steve

I'm glad someone recognised the drain plug. It's hard for me to know how other people will interpret the photograph as I know exactly what's going on.

This picture illustrates one of the reasons it used to take me two hours to wash dishes when my mom set me to the task...

PS. I think for this challenge the object (the plug hole) is necessary

That is really effective, at first I just thought it was created by pouring water into a sink of water. Then I noticed the spoon, once the spoon is noticed it looks totally obvious. A top shot Rent, well done.

This is really fun! It took me a moment to understand what I was looking at but I was delighted when I finally made sense of it. I am not sure the image needs the object in the lower left but its a great capture nonetheless. ~Sharon (elips)
