Techo the BHs aren’t there because of the "direct intense light" they are there because Shu wants them there. If she had held up a piece of white material the highlights could have been easily controlled if she had wanted to. Shu said "I must trust my own eye when critiquing my own images" This is what photography is all about we shoot for our own likes not others. So once someone has learnt the basics of photography & starts to get an eye, then the opinions of others shouldn't alter your opinion of your work unless you agree with their critique.

what I good looking mess to be proud of. The blown highlights do not bother me, they are after all a reflection of direct intense light and the photo isn't overexposed. Nicely toned and I like the shiny lid :)

Sharon--It's tough to go against what's currently the opinion concerning what makes a "perfect" image. As much as I always love to get positive comments regarding my work, I must trust my own eye when critiquing my own images. That is not to say I should not always be open to construction criticism and new ways to improve. I try to keep in mind that we all look at these images in a different manner and with our own ideas and style preferences. There are very few lousy images posted here and most of the judgments made come from the viewers tastes and level of expertise. Thanks for your interest. I have learned sooo much from you guys. Shu

Clearly, if you are happy with the image that is what really counts. And I entirely agree with you, and the magazine, that BHs are not always a bad thing. Knowing that you intended to have the lights in the picture does change the way I look at it and I should have known that you are much too good a photographer to have got them into the image by accident. I will have to think about this. ~Sharon (elips)

I just read in one of my photo mags that "blown hightlights" are fine when it's the artist's intention to create that kind of look. I think the design in the BH 's add to the image and when I actually tried to soften them, the image lacked interest. Sooooo..........??? shu

How on earth do you make mess look this good? Agree with Sharon about the BLOWN HIGHLIGHTS:-)

An interesting b&w image that makes me want to go wash my dishes! The reflection of the lights in the pan lid is a little harsh. ~Sharon
