The Calm *

How sweet and soothing is this hour of calm! I thank thee, night! for thou has chased away these horrid bodements which, amidst the throng, I could not dissipate; and with the blessing of thy benign and quiet influence now will I to my couch, although to rest is almost wronging such a night as this.
Lord Byron (1788 - 1824)

Looking at the shot there's no visual evidence the flash had any effect. I can't see any reason to use a flash in this situation if the flash had illuminated the bushes it wouldn't have looked right & would have spoilt the mood. Don't forget Jano the only thing in this shot that the flash is capable of reaching is the bushes & they look to be in silhouette as they would have without using a flash. Lovely shot init:-)

Thanks to all so much for the kind comments. I did use the 420EX for this shot as I wanted to bring out more of the foreground as my previous pics the nite prior really seemed drab (and absent cloud cover). I did have the flash tilted up. Do you think using the flash made a difference? I really see no evidence of a flash on a whole, but wondering if those if you in the know (and with lots more experience) would have used the flash or not, used it differently ? It was getting on the dark side. jano

Agree with Abs, the foreground made the shot even more beautiful.

one of the very few sunset shots, i like. awesome dynamic range and foreground bushes (very easy to forget to include) is a nice touch too. -Abstract

Beautiful!

It's quite hard not to get blown areas looking straight into the sun so you did extra well here. The other thing I like about this shot is it doesn't look too digital with over saturated colours, & I love the sky & the dark horizen. A beauty Jano, well done.

Thanks for your comment Mary Anne! I was just very lucky that the clouds came in the last day I was there! jano
