Mary Anne,
I do appreciate all the comments and those who know me say there is no chance you will drive me crazy....you are too late! Anyway this is the last shot at it and I like it, hope others do too.

Yes, now they really "pop." However, I think that possibly they are a bit oversharpened. Sorry if I'm driving you crazy with this...it's sometimes a fine line, one that I'm still struggling with myself. Just keep trying till you find the effect that you like.

Improved or not?

Relyap, I can't notice any appreciable difference. Try darkening the image a bit, and then increase the contrast. Oops...I just read through the comments and see that Rod said the same thing. Guess you'd better do it now! LOL.

I appreciate all the comments. I tried fiddling with it a bit, not so sure I helped it out any.

Mary Anne, I'll look for it.

Maybe a simpler way for you to enrich it would be to just tug down on the bottom of the curve a bit. Nice shot. ~ Lonnit

Those spines against the OOF background make this one almost hurt to look at. Reminds me of a Renaissance warrior's mace, guarding Nature's softness (though welcoming ants, who have their own brand of sting). Congrats on seeing still another B&W subject that would've escaped me. ... Lew

Aam, what is the free s/w you mentioned? I'm also using PSE 2.0 and have been confused about all the talk regarding Channel Mixer.

Great textures, you can feel the spines. The focus really works too.
Rod 27-Aug-2005 23:49
Yes it has the makings of a good shot. Just try & darken it a fair bit then up the contrast. Nice one mate.
ctfchallenge27-Aug-2005 23:43
I really like this one.
aam1234 27-Aug-2005 23:20
I'm as green in PP as you are. But to just "desaturate" is a kind of "no no". It just turns the pic to gray, not B&W.
relyap 27-Aug-2005 22:48
Thanks for the comments. I am using Arcsoft and an older version of Digital Image Pro for post processing. I'm not sure what Channel Mixer would do, and when I tried to adjust the contrast I didn't like the result. PP is new to me.
aam1234 27-Aug-2005 22:40
relyap, try the Channel Mixer, it's excellent for B&W. If you have PSE 2.0 like me, get one of those free s/w like I did. It's worth it.

Clever title...I don't know if I would have noticed the ants otherwise. The OOF background works well, but I would suggest increasing the contrast a bit in order to really make those seedheads stand out.
