""the urge to re-opacitize"" I love it when you say that Lonnit:-)
ctfchallenge20-Aug-2005 03:10
If you must "burn," this version looks a bit smoother (well, at least I think so.) shu

BEtter. Don't know what happened but seems like you finally got it to work. I wouldn't object to a tad more of the burn showing through, but this is definitely better than the burnless version. Prolly better than the full burn, so if you don't feel like trying the opacity again, this is probably the best choice, but if you have the urge to re-opacitize, I'd encourage a tad more burn showing through. ~ Lonnit

Ok, I lied a little. The "dodge&Burn" thing is flawless. It really is.
aam1234 19-Aug-2005 07:55
Oh, and the "dodge&Burn" effort is very obvious.
aam1234 19-Aug-2005 07:53
Don't want to pressure you Rod, but time is ticking, as in tick...tack, tick....
Rod 19-Aug-2005 07:43
Aaamm you're so forceful................I think I like it:-)
Ok I will look at the original again.
aam1234 19-Aug-2005 06:50
Do I have to say it loud? just bring the original !
Rod 19-Aug-2005 06:28
Lonnit did you forget some instructions?:-) I loaded two shots into PS & dragged one on top of the other & guess wot........nothing happened. Then I thought I would have a look in layers but only the highlighted picy was there. So in the end I created a new layer & copied one shot & pasted it to the new layer tried the opacity slider & guess wot........nothing happened. Then I duplicated what was there & made it go on top. But in the end I'm not sure what I did or what did what what but I ended up with the opacity slider making the shot darker gradually. So I think I did it but don't know how:-) So here's the shot sort of half & half.

I hate it when people say something is simple & I can't do it:-) But from what you discribe Lonnit even Paul could do:-)
ctfchallenge19-Aug-2005 05:13
To do the layer thing just open up this shot in PS and also open the burned one. Drag the burn shot over this one and you can drop it right on top. Then just play around with the opacity slider until it's as burned as you want it. I think you're ging to want to keep the opacity of the burned one quite high b/c it was very dramatic. You should have no problem doing it; it's quite simple. :) ~ Lonnit

Just bring the original man! That was so beautiful it makes Lonnit jealous
Rod 19-Aug-2005 04:28
Aammm you want me to upset Shu. I've just got her happy & content If I go back to the other one.............well a woman scorned:-).....I will have a play & see if I can't do a compromise as Lonnit suggested, even though I have no idea how to lay one shot over the other.
aam1234 19-Aug-2005 03:48
Come on Rod. You are the last person to be told about being bold (not in your head).

Bring the original. It had much more character than this "politically correct" photo.
Guest 19-Aug-2005 03:11
Waw Rod... a really great shot...I like the contrast...
aam1234 18-Aug-2005 22:44
Am I allowed to comment on your entries Rod? if I am, I'd say the original post looks much much better. Oh, and I love this (the original) a lot.
Guest 18-Aug-2005 21:45
Rod, I did like the burning, it added drama, but it was just a bit overdone. Why not try taking this image and laying it over the burned one and then use the opacity to adjust how much of the burning shows thru? This way you should be able to get it exactly as you wanted to without the frustration. . :) ~ Lonnit

Boy! This looks great!!! I like the way the clouds now form an artistic backdrop for the wonderfully white textured lighthouse. The buildings across the bay have a nice sprinkling of light, too. The stone posts dance happily in the foreground. Great clarity, too. This is a case where a slight touch of the brush in PS was all that was needed. shu
Rod 18-Aug-2005 12:34
It sure is an art Shu, I managed ok in the darkroom but I'm buggered in Photoshop as I can't get it natural looking. Here's the same shot with no burning in, but I darkened the whole shot with levels & curves. The darker top part of the sky is the way it is. I can't remember if it’s all day long but the sky is darker & gets lighter towards the horizon. Accentuated by the levels & curves.
ctfchallenge18-Aug-2005 05:36
Burning is such an art.......and so tough to get right so that the image looks natural. What if you didn't burn at all, Rod......(or very slightly) and let the whites of the lighthouse stand on their own? shu
Rod 18-Aug-2005 03:39
Yes both, the bottom burn was worring me too. I will rework it Thanks Lonnit.
Canon DSLR Challenge18-Aug-2005 03:35
Nice Rod! Did you burn the top & bottom? Perhaps a bit overdone, but still a very nice capture. Good job. :) ~ Lonnit
